When I first got the snails delivered one was stuck on another. I separated them to make sure they were all alive before putting them in the tank and all was OK. Since then I have found the same small snail sucking on several other nerites. What is it doing? At first I thought maybe it was trying to clean the shell of other snails but it will often be there for longer than it would take to clean the snail. So I am left confused, especially since I think it is just one that is doing this. Any ideas?

How rude!:hmm3grin2orange:

Would you like to be separated while in the middle of a quicky?:14:
They are most likely male and female! nudge nudge wink wink

They need two to breed unlike pond snails.

Mine really like each other.

How the hell does that work? Looks like it is attaching to the back of another where teh shell appears to be solid....so where is the "opening" for mating?

Its there! lol You will get a chance to see.lol Probably lots of chances. My apple snails were at it steady!
Not sure but I thinks its their siphon that is (used to breath air from the surface with) also used to breed with. I have more pics. It'll take a few minutes to find them.

He sticks his *ahem* under the lip of her shell, but you usually don't see this yourself as he'll likely be in the way.

I don't think Nerites breed in freshwater, though, so it's just recreational. :hmm3grin2orange:

Anyways, sometimes the other snails shells get dirty, even start to grow algae! This is sometimes (though not as usual) what happens.

Even if the larvae need saltwater to live, they'll still lay eggs.

Oh I guess you all were right....when I was cleaning the tank this weekend I noticed two off white ovals on the glass and wasn't sure what they were but knew they weren't moving. Then tonight I look in the tank and there are hundreds of them. Part of me is hoping they are snail eggs but thought they typically left eggs in clusters, this is like one or two scattered all around. What I am referring to are the white spots on the rock mid shot...are these nerite eggs? If they are eggs do they need to be removed to keep the water from turning bad? How many of these suckers are they going to drop?
