I purchased the Python. If I read the instructions correctly this product aerates the water to help remove chlorine from the water. Is this correct? I will still continue to use a water conditioner.

Just curious.

No. The python fills and emptys the tank. You need to add your dechlorinator as you fill the tank.

Use dechlor, it takes a lot of aeration to remove chlorine and aeration doesnt affect chloramines.

Another vote for always dechlorinator!:19:
lol
Unless you have good well water.

when using the python is it ok to just fill the tank straight from the tap then add dechlorinator into the tank then?

I would have thought adding the dechlorinator into the tank would give the chlorine and chloramine time to kill the bacteria.

Add you dechlorinator before you start filling.

I generally dump in the dechlor and then turn on the fill. No worries so far.

Cool :)

Will make things alot easier if I do that!!!

I was paranoid that the chlorinated water would instantly kill all my good bacteria so I've been mixing the water and dechlor and leaving it a few mins to mix before putting it in the tank.

Takes ages to do a large change!

It will kill the bacteria pretty fast, so do not add it straight to the filter, but just adding it to the tank is fine as long as dechlor is present.

so If I turn the filter off or better still take it out for the sake of ten mins i'd be fine!

thumbs2:

soory for the noob questions btw, but you got to forgive me.... I'm new lol

Not needed. Add the dechlor for the whole tank volume and fill up the tank. Your filter will be fine.

That's what I do and it works just fine, so I will say +1 on dechlor in tank, then start the fill.

A python is only for adding or taking out water period. Use a dechlorinator like prime or stress coat plus. Any time adding any water to your tank use a dechlorinator.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I forgot I posted this. Have been dealing with my cycling and some home issues.

Has anyone had an issue with a Python not picking up gravel? I tried using my on the gravel when inhad to do a water change. Python would not pick up gravel has when inwas trying to do a practice cleaning.

If im cleaning the substrate i usually turn the water on full blast. After im done with the substrate i cut the water down to drain the rest of the tank

Two things I've noticed will cause it to not work very well or at all. This may or may not apply to you, mine is the 50 foot version so I am sure the shorter ones have less of an issue.

1- make sure you have enough water pressure. Sounds silly, but only one sink in my house has enough to run a python.

2- make sure the lin e is clear. If you have staggered air bubbles, ESPECIALLY if you have low water pressure, it wont be able to get the suction going. Just drain it out into the sink and try it that way. Or run the python in reverse first to get the line flooded with water, put it in the tank, then flip it over to suction, and it should start up right away.

If its pulling water, but just not enough to get the gravel clean. its probably a water pressure issue, or a kink in the hose. Also double check that all the valves are open and there are no air leaks.

Thanks for the replies. Now that I think about it I don't think I had my sink water handle opened all the way.

To Chrisfraser I have seen some videos on ehow.com and on the Pythons website.
