These are one of the most aggressive tropical fish kept by aquarist and absolutely under no conditions should be kept in a community tank with other fish. At breeding time these cichlids will terrorize and kill the entire tank sometimes including their breeding mate.

Ye iv read it. I actually have two breeding pairs and a breeding pair of firemouths... I dont rly agree with the bad reputation they have... it puts people off getting them. If kept in a big tank they are actually pretty 'peaceful'.. no more aggressive then the average cichlid. But yeah if tank isnt big enough which is nearly always the case.. they prob kill every fish in tank.

I always found them to be a more peaceful cichlid but like all fish it depends on the individual.
I hope the spawn hatches a lot of fry.thumbs2:

The Jewels should be in their own tank to successfully spawn.
The other fish may cause aggression issues in your tank.

I actually dont want them to spawn.... but ill let them at it. I have another tank so if i ever do wish to raise the fry i have the option.
The other fish may cause aggression issues in your tank. u dont wanna know what else i have :hmm3grin2orange:
Its a 211gal tank. no major aggression. but yeah, normally i wudnt recommend mixing them.
