So which new fish did you end up getting?

Full3R
04-18-2006, 08:06 AM
To my dissapointment they hadnt had a good ship in of fish for a while so my choices were VERY limited, they did not have and of which we named except the salmon tail and the red devil, they had a gorgeously coloured jack dempsey the same size as my oscar but was unsure of the conflict between them, i ended up purchasing a small red tiger oscar, i plan to check a back yard breeder i know possibly tomorrow who carries alot of cheap fish, and then another pet shop
(i have pictures of the red-tiger oscar with the barra which i shall shortly upload they arent good pictures actually)

William
04-18-2006, 09:52 AM

William
04-19-2006, 09:23 PM
Sorry to hear that. Whats the barrel like looking decoration you have. The one with the fake polyps on it.

Full3R
04-19-2006, 09:24 PM
That Blue gourami until about the oscar got 7 inches lived with him and they got along fine infact they shared a pipe together but i had to move the gourami into the other tank as my other oscar needed to go with the 8 inch one

Full3R
04-19-2006, 09:26 PM
the barrel like dedoration is a fake barrel mounted on a fake ocean rock which the barra lurks in and when it sees a mosquito fish with less then a second his out caught the fish and back in the barrel waiting for the next

William
04-19-2006, 09:26 PM
Yeah. OScars often make strange friends. I know of one that Always swims with a rope fish.

Full3R
04-20-2006, 05:53 PM
My oscar protected the gourami and when i removed the gourami the oscar was dperessed for about 2 weeks

William
04-20-2006, 06:03 PM
thats cute.

Full3R
04-22-2006, 03:33 AM
yeah, i still have both fish only in different tanks, also i just wanted to let you know i bought 2 convict cichlids for $8 each and they are about 2 inches in length, not sure if its a pair but i guess ill find out soon enough

William
04-22-2006, 03:52 AM
Yes. You can also often se some red on the belly of females.

Full3R
04-22-2006, 03:56 AM
one of them has yellow coming from the base of all its fins?

Full3R
04-28-2006, 01:50 AM

04-28-2006, 03:21 AM
How large was your community tank again?
and which of your fish is in it now? you keep moving fish ;-)

Full3R
04-28-2006, 04:34 AM
ok in the large tank contains my 8 inch and 5 inch albino oscars, 5 inch green severum and 5 1/2 inch barra
In my small community tank which i plan to upgrade to be larger i have a 3' red tiger oscar, 4" blue gourami(male), 2" white gourami(female), 2" blue gourami(female), two 2" Covict Cichlids and my salmon tailed catfish i plan to move the salmon tail and red tiger into the the larger aquarium with the albino oscar barramundi and green severum when they are bigger

William
04-28-2006, 05:14 AM
But you plan to keep the covicts in the community tank?

Full3R
04-28-2006, 05:16 AM
is that bad
cuase the arent a pair and they get along fine with the other fish but if need be i will get another tank set up for them

William
04-28-2006, 05:28 AM
Well it might be and it do limit you choices. A convict, even a small one, easily kills most of the fish on your list if they for some reason whats so ever get pissed.

They are more suitable for your oscar tank once they get bigger.

Full3R
04-28-2006, 05:32 AM
well ill move them into that coz im working to move my computer onto the desk where the community tank is then move my oscar tank over the otherside of the room and put a 4 foot (55gallon) tank in place of the oscar tank and the computer and put the oscars green severum barramundi and convicts in the 55 gallon and then put my community fish in the old oscar tank

William
04-28-2006, 05:40 AM
I just noticed that you had blue acaras on the list. and those could be kept with convicts.

Other wise I think I would have angels, rams and 1-2 black ghosts in the community aquarium.

Full3R
04-28-2006, 05:53 AM
nice thanx for the advice

Full3R
04-28-2006, 06:50 AM
is Julidochromis a pike cichlid

William
04-28-2006, 07:23 AM
No. Its a Tanganyika cichlid. ITs require high pH levels to thrive. Nice fish but mostly suitable for a Tanganyika community tank.

Full3R
04-28-2006, 07:30 AM
owell the guy that backyard breeds had those, he had

jewel Cichlids
Oscars
Julidochromis
Peacock cichlids
Bumble bee Cats
Dimidiochromis
Black Ghosts
Honey gouramis
Blue Gouramis
Angelfish
Red Tailed Sharks
upside down Catfish
Sailfin Pleco
Pleco of some sort and others

I was unsure of most and only had $20 So i bought a 3" Black Ghost which is doing fine

William
04-28-2006, 07:34 AM
3 black ghost for 20$. Thats nice !

Jewel cichlids would work with the comvicts and are quite nice. How nice depends on the species of jewel cichlid.

Read Jewel Cichlids (http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/universal-viewid277.html) for info on the most common species.

How did the peacock cichlids look. The term can refer to both a group of south american cichlids and a group of malawi cichlids.

Full3R
04-28-2006, 07:55 AM
when i said 3" black ghost i meant it was 3 inches, but he does do a deal of 3 black ghosts for $25 but he only had one left so i just bought the one

they were red jewel cichlids

and what do u mean how did they look colour wise or health wise?

William
04-28-2006, 08:01 AM
Yes of course. Sorry I missed the "

Colour wise will tell me plenty ;-)

Full3R
04-28-2006, 08:12 AM
there were summ that were plain in colour that had flat colours like shady whites and greys
but in the larger tank they were colourful with blues blacks browns and oranges all patched on the body why do you ask?

William
04-28-2006, 09:19 AM
Well because there is one group of cichlids from lake Malawi and a group of south american cichlids and I think you would like the south american type. the Malawi kind should only be kept in malawi setups.

The Malawi looks like this
http://www.jjphoto.dk/fish_archive/aquarium/aulonocara_stuartgranti_x.jpg
Copyright jjphoto.dk (http://www.jjphoto.dk)

another one
http://www.jjphoto.dk/fish_archive/aquarium/aulonocara_species2_x.jpg
Copyright jjphoto.dk (http://www.jjphoto.dk)

They exist in numerous colours.

The south american looks like this
http://www.jjphoto.dk/fish_archive/aquarium/cichla_ocellaris2_x.jpg
Copyright jjphoto.dk (http://www.jjphoto.dk)

which type did they looks most like.

(the pictures are by the way examples of the kind of pictures the site will be getting.)

Full3R
04-28-2006, 10:55 AM
well there were some like the first one and the rest were i think were like the bottom pic

William
04-28-2006, 11:12 AM
WI think you could like the ones below. but they do grow big

Read info about cichla cichlids to learn more about them.

Full3R
04-29-2006, 03:17 AM
yeah i like the ones below but how big are they when u say big

William
04-29-2006, 03:59 AM
Depends on the species but 60-70 cm. ocellaris seldom reach more than 35 in normal aquariums.

Full3R
05-18-2006, 10:40 AM
Tomorrow i reluctantly am trading in my 7 inc pink oscar due to its violence towards my peaceful 9 inch albino and 4 inch red tiger oscar and 7 inch green severum, when i make the trade what fish should i get in return they have to be able to go with

tank 1
9 inch oscar
4 inch oscar
7 inch severum

tank 2
6 inch blue gourami
4 inch blue goruami
3 inch white gourami
5 black skirt tetras
4 inch black ghost
comet
shubunkin
guppies
plattys
telescopes
fantails

tank 3
Breeding pair of Black Convicts

William
05-18-2006, 01:54 PM
Hard to say. Do you have any clue to what fish they have at the moment?

Full3R
05-18-2006, 03:23 PM
Silver dollars, texas cichlids, varies tetras, oscars, peacock cichlids, varies gourami, bala sharks, rams, ghosts, guppies, plattys, swordtails, archerfish, elephant nose fish, large barra, pleco, slamon tail, clown and zebra loach, convicts, angels(which i want), goldfish, gold severums, discuss, bubmle bee cats, blue acaras, kuhli loaches, hatchetfish, rainbow sharks, Male and female bettas,

and thats all i can remember at 1:23am

William
05-18-2006, 04:40 PM
How big is tank two. I am asking since that tank might be suitable for angels which you wanted.

Full3R
05-19-2006, 05:00 AM
right now its only about three gallons but when i said tank two i meant the 20 gallon because we are going to move them into different tanks

William
05-19-2006, 07:03 AM
Still a bit small for angels. I think I would consider getting some rams for tank two (the future one)

Full3R
05-19-2006, 07:15 AM
oh, well i purchased to small 1 inch long angels and a 1 inch silver dollar, and ill put the angels in a bigger tank when they get bigger and the silver dollar i plan to put with the oscar and get more silver dollars

William
05-19-2006, 06:06 PM
ok. where will you keep the angels for now?

Full3R
05-19-2006, 09:02 PM
well RIGHT NOW they are in my small community tank but when we have the upgrade ill have that spare tank i was telling u about in another article and then theyll live by themselves i guess then ill have to buy another tank

Full3R
05-20-2006, 11:50 AM
id also like to add i bought the angels before i read what u wrote about it being a bit to small

William
05-20-2006, 07:03 PM
OK. It will take them some time to grow out it so you might have a new tank by than.

Full3R
05-20-2006, 07:30 PM
yeah thank god

Full3R
05-29-2006, 08:03 AM
I got my betta, hes not in the best condition but we'll work on it for him i have a tendancy to feel sorry for the sick fish at the shop and take them home, all my fish were pretty much sick or dying when i bought them sept like 10 of them

Full3R
05-29-2006, 03:37 PM
Can i buy a blue acara female?

William
05-30-2006, 06:18 AM
For which tank?
You could keep her with the convicts or perhaps the oscars (depending on relative size). I would however recommend getting a pair. But than again I always think one should keep fish in pairs ;-)

Full3R
05-30-2006, 07:38 AM
well would they hang around each other heaps if tghey were a pair
but if i kept her with the convicts wouldnt they try and kill each other?

William
05-30-2006, 07:17 PM
They might fight a little but if will most likely work out unless the tank is to small. (whats the size of the convict tank)

A air would likely hang around eachother and breed. They are as easy as convicts to breed.

Full3R
05-31-2006, 08:10 AM
The convict tank is rather small, but they bred in a smaller one, but ill put the acaras in a small section of the oscar tank till they get a bit bigger then ill let em free throughout the tank

Full3R
05-31-2006, 05:44 PM
But than again I always think one should keep fish in pairs ;-)

Then in that case do you think i should get my lone Shubunkin and Lone Black Moor A friend each?

Full3R
06-02-2006, 03:59 PM
BTW i bought two blue acaras about 2 inches long for $12

William
06-03-2006, 03:23 AM
ok. Congrats on the acaras.

No. I don't think you have to get more goldfish since they don't live in pairs such as acaras and many other cichlids do.

Full3R
06-08-2006, 09:25 AM
My larger blue acar is agressive towards all the other fish even larger then it any ideas what to do

William
06-08-2006, 12:39 PM
try changing the decore a litlle.

Full3R
06-09-2006, 07:09 AM
kk
the larger agressive one always swims and hides with my ghost
