Red tailed shark [Archive]

I have a 100 gallon malawi tank. A friend of mine needs to get rid of a red tailed shark, and has offered me to take it. So, my question is, could I put the shark with the africhan cichlids?

If you mean Epalzeorhyncus bicolor, then no. They need different water conditions then malawi cichlids.

I don't see the problem with putting red tails with malawais I have two of them in a tank with some severums and E. Blues and they are doing fine.

As far as the Epalzeorhyncus bicolor goes, why are they so aggressive? And don't they change colors. That the red on the tail doesn't develop for several weeks. Is that true it takes that long for the color to develop?I'm just curious since it was mentioned.

The red tail is a territorial fish and is a such aggressive.

Yes it is true that it takes some time for the red color to develop in the fry. It can take months but is not really a problem since this species is next to impossible to breed in aquariums.

Most fry needs weeks to develop their "real" colors and some need much more.
