Looked over while reading my book this morning, and saw something odd in the tankwater. Upon closer inspection? Guppy fry!

Which explains why my female wasn't her usual friendly self this morning, and all hiding away.

Immediately I took the males out who were harassing her, and dumped them in a jar. They will be moving to the twenty gallon very shortly.

So far I have confirmed five fry, and possible one stillborn behind where "Mom" is hiding right now, and another was eaten before I could scoop up the "Dad"s... OH! As I was writing this another fry popped into the open! Six at least!... anyways, just rather excited. These are my very first livebearer fry.

Anyone have a rough estimate of how long she'll be in labor? She still seems rather "full" so I'm guessing I caught her just as she was going into it.

And do they have their adult tail shape as soon as they're born? 'cause if so it would really help me narrow down the Daddy, as they all have different tails.

I have had females drop fry for what seemed liked days!lol
Congrats on yours.
I never separated my fry from the main tank.I just gave them hiding places and let them be.I have since gotten rid of all my females because I was tired of giving away well over a hundred free fry to my lfs every month.

Can't find my female now, which is depressing. If she isn't around by feeding time I'm half-tearing down the tank until I find her (ie. taking decorations, moveable plants, out.)

She seemed pretty stressed once she was done, so she could've just died because of that. But oddly, my red delta tail is missing too.

I better have at least one female fry survive, otherwise I'm never going to have your problem, NG. lol =(

(In happier news, the first few feedings of the fry went well. Just a mix of high protein foods ground into a fine powder for now.)
