I tend to overfilter. One reason is because I have them around. Another is because it does not hurt and the water is that much better. And theoretically you have a backup if anything goes wrong.
Well, that's exactly what happened. I did a water change on my 55 mbuna tank last Thursday (2 Whisper 60s and a Fluval 404). I had noticed some noise from the area but didn't think too much of it. Then I decided to check and see if it was the Fluval was running right. It was not running at all. Last night I cleaned it and almost got it going when it crapped out again. It is pretty good when a Fluval 404 on a 55 can stop and you not even notice it.
Another thing is that there was a small leak from the head of the filter. Either the O-ring, or the Aqua-Stop, something. Well, I wiped up what little had leaked and left the filter sitting after it crapped out. Then when I got up this morning (at 5:00 because of finals at stupid school at George Mason Incorporated) and went to turn on the lights, the carpet was wet. It was not too bad. I wiped it up and left the fan running on the carpet (area rug) that I draped over a small table to help it get some air. The tank had lost about a half an inch. It is pretty bad when you have developed a standard procedure for wet carpet.
