and the toad tank, 29g cichlid tank, and the banded loach from the 20g planted
Notice in the 29g how the stupid fish ripped up the plants and dug the gravel from under the driftwood

Wow, you weren't kidding. The planted 20g IS a mess, lol.
That first tank made me smile--all of the water marks, etc. on the outside of the glass. My daughter "paints" the glass with her finger on the outside, tracing where the fish go. I don't mind that so much as when she does it with my 24" computer monitor. NOOOOOOO!
I think some of your tanks would look so much better with a background. Something simple like a plain dark blue or a black. That way you wouldn't see the cords handing around as much. Wonderful fish, seriously, just a suggestion.

I agree on the background bit. I just spraypainted my first tank last night, and it turns out wonderfully with a 94 cent can of matte black paint. Ill post a DIY on the masking process and such when i get another can. Cocoa, dont take my idea like you did on the lightbulb thing again, or ill sic hobbs on you with her spoon!
What did you do, just mask out the tank and spray? You'd have to make sure the top was covered totally.

cocoa, what kind of toad(s) you got in there?

Man, background is on my to do list.
The 20g auratus/tetra/brichardi has MAJOR algae issues. I scrape, shut off the lights for a few days, and nothing works. The salt tank is bad too, but its expected.
The planted tank is really cool. Its so messy that the fish have a maze
Yeah, I am on the edge about planted tanks. Some are really cool because they are beautifully arranged. Some are really cool because they are just out of control natural.

I dont do SQUAT for the plants except for the co2 system and they actually grow. I just randomly chuck them into the tank and yell GROW! lol
I am considering trying real plants in my next tank. Not sure yet, though. Do you necessarily have to have a C02 system?

Nope, but if you dont, you should have good lighting, good substrate, and do ferts. Ask chrona.

personally, i think natural plants help the fish be more healthy and stress free. they provide lots of oxygen and soft places to hide/sleep. not to mention how clean they keep the water. it is more work though, but i love plants to begin with, so i enjoy the hobby.

some plants arent any work. I have regular lighting on my tank and everything grows fine
We have a collection of about 30 or so houseplants and I love gardening/landscaping, so plants are cool. Maybe I'll set up another 10 or a new 20 gallon and just try it to see how I like it.

Light, CO2, ferts are all required by plants in a certain ratio. Raise one and you need more of the others, so if you run a low light setup, no you don't need CO2, though it helps. At higher light, CO2 becomes required if you want to keep the tank algae free. Once you get CO2 going, dosing ferts may become a requirement as well (it usually does)
