Had a real crappy week with the niece and a virus she picked up. She ran fevers all week (doc says it lasts 6-7 days), the nephew decided Friday would be a good day to cut another tooth, making him another happy camper, and the Friday evening MY 5 yr old came down with the virus, and spent the next 3 days running fevers and whining. (Today thankfully has been a little better)
Needless to say, Sunday wasn't looking like it was going to be too good, so, in frustration, I decide that I am going to start calling petstores and see if anyone has any puffers. And I am going to look to see if I can find a store or 2 that I haven't been to yet. If I strike out, I AM going to go to petsuppliesplus and get a fig8 and some bumblebee gobies and start a brackish tank. I really don't want brackish, but hey, if that is the only way I can get a puffer to make up for the lousy mothers day, than da***t that is what I am going to do!
I lucked out, and a place about an hour away, RMS Aquaculture, had what they called "red belly puffers", which of course could be just about anything as we all know with common names, and puffers are worse since few people know about them!
I scored, what I am 99% sure are 1 male, 2 female carinotetraodon irrubesco. (there are 4 very similar puffs and they are hard to ID). I am thinking about naming them "Happy" "Mommys" and "Day"

They will grow to just around 2", little less. The only problem will be keeping them happily together. It is about a 50/50 shot of whether they will tolerate each other with some creative decor or not. Thankfully, if they have to be separated, they should each be okay in a 10 gal, which are plentiful around here! They are currently in a brand new 29 gal.

Then, I stopped at a store I hadn't seen yet, and they had this gorgeous guy in there. 99% sure it is Tetraodon Cochinchinensis, or fangs puffer. He is of the target group, will lay in wait like my suvatti, and then watch out!

The best part....hubby picked up the tab for all of yesterdays purchase! Today I was on my own and needed to pick up several things, but hey, I got off easy!
Made having a whiney kid a little easier!

They are very cute. They should be called red eyed puffers. Their eyes are red-not their tummies. LOL

Red eye, red tail, and red belly are all common names that can be found attached to anyone of the 4 species that look so very similar.
The red belly comes from the red belly line that the males will get when they mature, just like the male dp's get a black/grey belly line. In one of the pictures I posted you can faintly see the red belly line on my king of the harem.
