Yep, this was originally your idea, in your thread, I put in the suggestion to run a poll to submit the idea, and cocoa had one up before I could blink, LOL.

on one of the SW forums i post on, we have a "User Review" section which has posting and replies disabled for registered users.

Basically, a user writes a review and pm's it to the admin or two mods (with pics and links etc). once it has been approved by the admin/two mods, it is posted in the "User Review" section.

Works quite nicely.

I would think that it would be a pretty good idea. It would also be interesting to see what results people have with products that are not available in our own country before we go out and import one.

I think there would be some controversy, but I also think that there would be some majority opinions on certain items that might help newbies.

I see no reason not to trash something we bought if it was trash. Why hold back now? LOL

The only problem I see is keeping the thread on keel. For instance, if I was to write that I hate UGF, then a lengthly conversion regarding UGF is conducted before the next product becomes the topic. This makes for long threads with a lot of go thru for each mentioned product.

I tried this with ASAP Fish Diseases but found each new topic was buried.

But, a sub-folder can easily be created by any of the mods if this is what you want to do but personally I think each topic should come under a new thread in technical so each topic is not getting buried and members can read and find each topic of conversation easily.

I voted NO because of this but not because I think it's a bad idea. I just know how things get buried.

Good points. The Moderators would have to stay on top of it and move responses to reviews. That is, reviews ONLY, post elsewhere for discussion. You could have a sub folder for categories of reviews.

If it was just an entire subsection under technical (like contraversial is seperate under chatterbox) I reckon that would work, you would just browse through to see if your product is already in there with its own thread, as long as people did look 1st, so we did not end up with 5 threads regarding one product.
But if it came down to just a single thread called product reviews, I agree with Hobbs, we would be spending more time controlling that thread than doing more important things.
