hey there! how is everyone doing?
i'm doing ok, i suppose...
the reason i joined this forum is because i'm extremely new to tropical fish-keeping, and so far 8 of my fish have died due to ich.
another reason, is that i really do enjoy having an aquarium... i like sitting down and watching them, it's peaceful...
well, that's about it... i hope to learn a lot from you guys!
:)
Welcome aboard! Can you post details of your tank setup? We would love to help you!

Welcome to AC. It's always good to have ICK medication on hand when introducing new fish to your tank. Even better to quarantine them first but in any event, treating ICK is easy and if treated immediately you will have no deaths.

Thanks!
Lets see...
10gal
2 Tiger Barbs
2 Rosy/Fruit... Tetra/Barb
1 Dwarf Gourami
1 Powder Blue Gourami
1 Opaline Gourami
2 Zebra Danio
2 Red/Blue Tetra
make that 1 tiger barb.... the other just died today....
I have the temp at 82 right now, and I've been adding salt daily for the past few days... the ICK medicine I have is Rid-Ich, with malachite green. I believe this stuff killed the mini-catfish I had :(

Ohhh, lets see here. You are overstocked quite a bit. The tiger barbs will get about three inches, and the three gouramis is a bit much IMO. Only add salt at waterchanges, as it doenst go away with out a WC. If the mini catfish you had was a cory, the salt is the reason, as they cant have any salt.
Welcome to the A.C.!
Not to rain on your parade, but you are horribly overstocked. Your remaining tiger barb will get about 3" long. Your opaline gourami will get about 3-4" long. Your red/blue tetras sound like they are neon tetras. Your "mini catfish" was probably a corydora. You will continue to lose fish unless you get a bigger tank. I recommend you perform at least weekly 50% water changes, but you also need to either get another tank or return some of the fish to the fish store. You will never succeed in having a healthy tank with that stocking level. Honestly, not trying to be negative, just trying to give you some details to help.

Thanks for the info!
Well, at first I had 20 fish in that tiny aquarium... so I guess I was REALLY overstocked...
I have since then bought a 29 gallon... but I'm waiting until I learn a lot more about tropical fish until I set this one up..
To be honest, I didn't know jack crap about having to cycle the tank, or anything like that... I just bought a tank, filled it with water, dechlorinated it, and added the fish, thinking it would all work out...
I guess next time I'll learn...
One more thing... the way I'm attempting to cure this ich... is it sufficient?
Oh, and thanks by the way, for welcoming my newbie self here.. :)
(I'm such a newbie, eh? 20 fishies in a 10 gallon... LOL...)
Maybe 20 fish would do fine in a 29 gallon?!
For ick, raise your tank temp to about 82 degrees and use an ick medication per the instructions on the bottle. Please download and read the free ebook from the left menu of this screen. Also read up on the fishless cycle sticky post on the beginner freshwater forum. It is easy and is an outstanding way to cycle your tank. Move with some urgency lest you lose more of your fish! We'll help you along, no problem. What filtration do you have?

Best place to start learning would be to go to the ebook section and download the book, it is a great read.
Hope all goes well with your new tanks from now on, and look forward to hearing more from you.
