...so I'm bored...humour me...

My expectations for today were to:

Take my big dog to the city - after dropping off my 12 year old son and 15 year old daughter in the small town they attend school at (a 20 min. drive from our house). The town holds a yearly Garage Sale...so it's fun to wander around looking at junk...

After some garage sale-ing...I planned to drive the extra 35 min. to the city to the pet store to buy her a new collar and get some bird and fish supplies...and then come home...clean my upstairs tanks...do a bit of housework...and have a nap...thumbs2:

Instead - I woke up to find the big dog had an accident during the night and was too 'poopy' to take to the city. Then hubby informs me I need to stop at a specific greenhouse to pick up peat moss. So I take the little dog with me as I head to the small town. Drop off the kids...walk around a little...nothing of interest at the sales...go to the greenhouse...pick up the peat moss and a Larch. Well, now I have to go back home to take the Larch back, which is just as well, 'cuz I decided I'm tired...and the little dog is exhausted.

Get home...make lunch...happyily eating it...get a phone call from my 17-year old who went to the city to work (another 20 min. drive from our house, but in a different direction)...

He's left the truck running...with the keys in it...in front of the video-rental store and now he's late for work...so guess who gets to NOT finish lunch and drive to the city to rescue him?

It wouldn't have been so bad, except this past Thursday, the 17 year drove the 12 year old to another town (40 min. away) for a soccer game...

...he calls on the kids' cell phone (his responsibility to make sure it's charged) to tell me the truck is almost out of gas and he forgot his wallet...and that the phone is dyi*click*...

We got that one all figured out...but what a run-around!

While I'm in the city...hubby has also 'ordered' me to buy some weed & feed for the lawn. So I do that...stuff stinks to high heaven...drive all the way back home with the windows open...

"Where's the spreader? Is this the slow release kind?" (No spreader, not slow-release)...I pull the receipt out of the garbage...

I have to head back to town at 5 to pick up my kids...get there to find the 15-year old is staying longer - a friend is having a surprise birthday party for a younger sister...now I have to go back at 10 p.m. to pick her up...

So I didn't get the big dog's collar...or pet supplies...or clean the tanks...

...but I did manage a quick nap...

Today was uneventful. Yesterday:

- The company I am interning at tells me that the job I was guaranteed a month ago is not longer guaranteed and want me to reapply. They will drag out the process for at least a month from my past experiences. Frankly, I'm not so much angry that they took away the position, but I'm furious that because I thought I had the job, I turned down other internship offers that are no longer available. Whatever. Retarded mistake on their part, as I'm the only one in the plant that can program/troubleshoot a particular quarter million dollar optical scanner (since I've worked on it for the past 2 years) and they've always called me in because they don't want to pay the German company 5 grand to have a tech fly down to check it out. (and the technical support/maintenance from the company is horrendous to say the least). This time around, I'm planning on ignoring them. They screw me, I screw them.

- After storming out, my car battery was dead, so I had to sulk back in to get a jump -_-

- 2 minutes from home, my rear right tire shreds and I end up in a small ditch. I suppose I should be glad it didn't happen on the highway.

Today I drank beer and watched TV. That was about it.

LMAO!

Lets see. Woke up at 7:00, mowing our yard at 7:30 after cooking some bacon, eggs and coffee. Finished mowing at 9:00. Mowed one of my clients yards untill 10:00. Went to lowes, got some plywood. Went home cut the wood to look like the rosseta stone (school project), spray painted it black, wrote on it with silver sharpie in three different languages, built a stand for it, covered the stone in spray-on clear finish. Did 25 gallon waterchange on my 55, made some minute steaks for lunch, played video games untill 5 oclock. went to walmart, got my mom an iced tea maker, and a card. Went to the florists, got her some flowers, went home. went to the gym around ???? oclock. Sparred until 9-9:30 came home, showered, went to the neighbors house and finished a box for a subwoofer. came home, had another minute steak, and now im here!

My day on Saturday can actually be considered having been started during the week. I babysit for my sister and on Tuesday morning she informs me that her 3 (almost 4) yr old has been running a fever all night. She ran a fever ALL week, regularly going over 103 so we were piggy backing tylenol and ibuprofen for the week. I had to take my oldest in for the follow up on her root canal so I stopped at Sam's Club to stock up on food for the camper. Planned on taking off to camp Saturday morning for a weekend of fresh air, socializing and of course a few drinks with friends. Friday afternoon my sisters 7 month old son woke up from his nap with a fever AND another tooth coming thru. Took both kids to their baseball practices, get home and my 5 yr old starts complaining of a headache. Once I get her showered and ready for bed I find out that she is indeed running a fever and did so all night and most of the day on Saturday. My sister did take the kids to the doctors only to find out that this is some kind of virus that is going around. The kids run a fever for 6-7 days and all we can do is keep them hydrated and comfortable. I tried to get motivated on Saturday, I really did, but I ended up spending the day lazing around instead since I couldn't go to camp. Woke up today (Mother's Day) to her still running a fever of 102 so I can look forward to another lovely day. Had to cancel the plans to take my mother in law to dinner since we can't be sure the little one will be feeling up to it.
Oh well, such is the life of a MOM!

Wow. Not good for little ones to run high fevers that long. She needs to get cooled down in cool baths.

Hope she feels better soon. Could she be cutting a molar?

Yesterday was pretty great. Got up, took my daughter with me to get 2 scoops of chocolate brown mulch. In the meantime my wife had left for an all day scrapbooking thing. Came back home and spread the mulch around one of my planting beds. Came in, had lunch around 12 and took a nap with her (special treat, I almost never take naps). Got up around 2, got my daughter ready for a play date. My wife came home so she could show me where the people lived, dropped daughter off, came home and planted my pumpkin patch. Went to pick up my daughter, came home and played with her and my wife, drank beer, watched some of headbangers ball, drank beer, drank beer, and went to bed!

Kimmers, I agree with Lady Hobbs. A nice cool bath does wonders. My daughter ran a fever when she was getting her teeth.

Neither one of the girls are cutting teeth at the moment, it is a virus that is going around. My niece picked it up from the neighbors kid, brought it to my house, and now my daughter has it. The pediatrician has seen many cases of this in the past couple of weeks so we just do what we can to keep them comfy.

That is one of the worst feelings when your little one(s) don't feel good and there is little you can do for them. No fun at all.

Not to get too off-topic...

...but unless the fever runs dangerously high...it's best NOT to give any meds...it's been shown that reducing fevers makes the illness last longer...fever is the bodies defense against invading germs and a very good one...interfering with the process doesn't help...

Having said that...I don't give/take meds during the day...but will give the kids(or myself) Tylenol (or whatever) at bedtime...

...I figure sleeping through the night outweighs any neg. effect of taking Tylenol through the night...

The meds are more for comfort than for anything else. You are right. The body raises its core temperature to make it more difficult for the bacteria/virus to propagate.

I find that people seem to think they're bad parents if they permit their kids to be a bit uncomfortable for a short period of time...even if it's better in the long run...

...sometimes parenting isn't about making it easier...

Incredibly true! The feeling of helplessness is sometimes impossible to overcome when dealing with a sick little one.

I just woke up an hour ago, so not much has happened yet.

So far, I ate a big bowl of Lucky Charms, 4 Blueberry Eggos and am just finishing my first cup of coffee. Checked my email, did a bit of reading and wrote a few posts over on airliners.net and came over here to do the same.

I'll probably take a shower in a bit, go downtown and see if I can get a deal on some plants for my 29g tank.

Come back, do a water change on the tanks, clean the fliters and such and plant the plants (if I got lucky and ended up with a deal).

Then I have 3 computers that need some attending to, installing some new software, and this notebook needs to have it's folders reorganized.

Then I'll probably make myself a nice bowl of buttered popcorn, grab a root beer and watch a movie.

So, more or less, that's how my day is .... :ezpi_wink1:

...well...outside of tank maintenance and some heavy-duty vacuuming (my birds make a MASSIVE mess...seed (and worse) everywhere!)...

...my 17-year old son got me a bouquet of flowers...my 15-year old daughter baked me an apple pie...and my 12-year old son make me a card, commiting my husband to pick up the doggy doo in our little fenced in yard...

...and hubby also bought me a planter...

I took the 12-year old to the city for a haircut...forgot that they're closed Sundays...so we had coffee and went to Canadian Tire instead...

...now I'm doing odds and ends and seeing if my 6-pack of snails will eat the zucchini I tossed in their tank...

Saturday
I wake up, eat breakfast, and tell my parents about some pet adoption going on at the local petsmart, because they were looking for a dog. My dad tells me that he's driving 2 hours away to buy a dog. I went with him, and was horribly carsick. We stopped to get lunch (i paid). Then he bought the west highland terrier from some breeder. we drove back home. and the rest of the day was spent watching the dog. I was really tired and at 11 I fell asleep.
