View Full Version : Grr what the heck is wrong with my fish
Im really annoyed at my fish , two of my fish that are holding eggs INSIST to keep eating food and its ticking me off . Are they just not good fish mothers or what ? also one that keeps eating today when i fed the rest of the fish she in trying to eat spit out like 8 eggs out of her mouth that in half a sec got eaten by other fish and she keeps dropping them out of her mouth . thats whats making me mad , she is impossible to catch so i cant get her out and seclude her has anyone ever had a fish like this and does someone have maybe a quick easy way too make a diy egg tumbler ?

Is this the first time she has held eggs? If so that could be it.
im not sure .. i got her when she was already full grown what gets me is i could have sworn she was a male lol shows how much i know about sexing them hah
Why is she impossible to catch? I have a 125g cichlid tank and when I want a mother OUT... she comes OUT even if I have to pull out EVERY ROCK and EVERY PLANT (fake) in the whole tank! You MAY need a bigger net as well.... where there's a will there's a way! Make it happen!
As for her being a bad mother... LOL, this is why I strip my fish. I figure if I can see the little babies in her mouth, it's time to strip her because as you say, they're NOT supposed to eat when they're holding and I hate seeing them lose so much weight (though in my tank they gain it back fairly quickly because I'm not stingy with the food... hehe)

How can a fish INSIST on being fed? I mean, do they jump out of the tank and slap you in the face or what? LOL This is a fish and probably a hungry one. She knows how to care for her young and she will figure it out. If she wants to eat, let her. She'll probably give you far more babies than you'll ever know what to do with.

She, "INSISTS" by continuing to eat when holding . and i am just gonna let her, If she has them she has them, if she loses them she loses them . she already lost 11 by eating that got eaten by other fish...
btw my red zebra that is holding for the 2nd time has never eaten once she spawned and started holding . and she isn't eating while holding again
and even though she wants too she dosent
that's why I've thought this one might not be a good mother and all.

Based on the above... I'm NEVER going to feed another date as long as I live (not that I'll ever get a date)...:11:
