Since I set up my 120G, and I also have 3 other tanks running soon to be 4 other, I have found water ager/dechlorinator, is becoming quite expensive.

I am thinking of starting a natural aging process, from what I have read, the chemicals evaperate through the water surface area, so if I had say a 120L tub, with a srface area of about 2FTx 1.5FT, how long will it take to age the water, I would cover it with wet muslin cloth, so no contaminants get in.

I may have this all wrong, so any ideas are apreciated.

That would be fine. You just need to make sure the water company is only adding chlorine and not chloramine. Also make sure your tap doesn't have heavy metals. Chlorine usually escapes out of the water after 24 hours.
