So lets see how long back I can dig out on this computer. This is really just an excuse to show off the tank and my weak signature making skills.

So this picture is from around 3-4 months ago. Stock lighting.

This picture is from about 1-2 months ago. With 2-48inch 6.5k bulbs, and some new driftwood. The slate piece that was attached to the driftwood really seems to help the vals thrive as you will see in the difference.

And this picture was taken tonight to help in the making of my signature.

If you want, please rate away. Oh help me to use ms paint better to help edit my images. lol.

Nice tank !!!

Pretty soon, you'll be in the same situation as me, triming plants in your tank more often than you mow your lawn.:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

To resize an image, get a photobucket account, upload it. And then go to "edit" and then resize, and then crop. You can do alot of stuff, photobucket is free, and very useful. Great looking tank, i love the driftwood and slate!

Thanks for all the positive replies. As far as those vals go,, I got them from a fellow member (really good deal,, 15 bucks for 15 bunches) at first they were melting away, but after a month, the ones left just started taking off. Ive started trimming them and adding them to my 10gal betta tank,, he really likes having all that surface cover,, just lays in it like a hammock.

I dose using Flourish root tabs, along with flourish liquid fert, and just got some excel to add in small doses.

DUDE!!!! (and I NEVER call people DUDE!)...

You have NO IDEA how jealous I am of your plants! OMG you did a wonderful job!!!! Love the lighting too!

Now let's talk plants here! The Vals... you say they melted at first. Were you using the flourish tabs from the beginning AND was your tank cycled (so you had nitrAtes)?

See, right now I'm making a SECOND attemt (second tank) at plants. My first attempt (IMO) was a disaster! I have BBA all over the place... diatoms on the sand etc. I am DISGUSTED!

THIS time around I'm dosing with Potassium, Iron and Excel. I also am using that "supplimental" stuff. I think they're all made by "Flourish" (just checked, yes they are).

I should take a photo of my tank so you see what I have (you'd think I'd know... LOL).

Hang on... Oh never mind about that, this is your thread (don't want to hijack it)...

But I'm very impressed with your tank. Did you ever at any point, have algae problems... if so, how did you resove it?

AGain, GREAT job man and I truly mean that. You arranged your tank very well and I can only HOPE to have HALF the success that YOU have.

Good job!thumbs2:

Hey there are the night lights.. Its funny,, I have a ton of neons and leds in my car,, and my camera can take photos of it quite well,, but I guess the few in fishtank dont translate that well. Thanks for touching it up, and for the cake.

As far as my plants go. With the vals melting,, i think that happens with most plants when you switch water,, its just the plant getting used to the new area.

I would go careful with using the liquid ferts, root tabs do a great job and most plants that you will get to grow are heavy root feeders.

The reason I say go easy on the liquid ferts is the fact that if you overdose, thats when you will get real heavy algae. I get hair algae and some normal green algae everynow and then. Most hair algae is on the plants that are near the surface,, while the green algae is on the rocks. If the hair algae gets to out of control I just keep the lights off and neglect to feed for 2-3 days followed by a week of every other day feedings.

Its not all good times,, I have had to just buy alot of plants and keep trying to see what works with my natural water parameters. There was a period where I thought I was gonna be stuck with swords only.

Again thanks for the compliments. I owe it all to the great ppl here at AC,, I was only plastic plants till I found this site.

edit: yes plants were added to a tank that had been established for over a year. but i did a booboo when doing a water change and added chlorinated water to my tank,, killed off 90% of my fish and plants,, anubis and swords that were the only to make it through that.

These pictures look great. It's fun to watch how your tank has developed!

Maybe you already know this, and forgive me if so. On the note of taking pics in low light: If you're working with a (D)SLR and have a tripod (or table), switch it to manual, set the aperture small and the shutter speed slow. Any movement from the fish will be blurred, but you can get amazing detail on the plants, bogwood and rocks.

Well thanks for the bump Mith. Time for a few quick photos. It seems that the new filter has melted the local val growth on the left side,, but I see it growing back. The right side is about 4 vals thick on the back 1/5 of the tank. They really grow thick when pinched.

Also like the growth from the moss on the driftwood. Trying to get similar growth on left side drift wood.

On to the photos.

Check out the anubius,, its got 2 flowers up. I really need to trim it soon. Also female bosie(upper left), and female angel.

Ok,, shew, im all copy and pasted out, lol. Thanks for the interest. You might see some hair algae,, remenants from my endovours with liquid ferts. Never again.. fert tabs work quite well. Keep tuned for future updates.
