Now that they are free swimming I can see that I still have about 90%. I took a picture last night (you can see their little eyes now) and will take another one later after they have been feed and cleaned. This is farther then I ever got with betta fry. Keep your fingers crossed.

They are eating today. I feel better knowing that there is a chance now that at least some of them might make it. My Husband had a good look today and thinks there are about 500. They won't hold still to be counted, so we will have to wait until they are bigger to get a better tally. I am going to move any survivors to a 10g after 2 weeks.

Are they commons, crown tails, or what?

Looks like you can make some money here, huh?

Remember to change water often and in large quantities to remove the growth inhibiting hormones put out by the fry. Pro breeders do like 75+% changes daily to maximize growth and size from what I've heard

They are dwarf gourami, but the fry are similar to betta as far as size and difficulty. I won't make any money from it, but I am going to exchange them for livestock at the LFS.

This is how the fry look at 2 weeks. It's really kind of creepy, like little floating heads.

It's my fault. I mentioned betta fry in the original post, but is was a comparison. They are the only other labyrinth fish I had tried breeding. I have raise Endler fry, which I thought were small at the time, and a few others. I feel bad for this batch though, I have to go out of town for 2 days. I expect them not to survive going that long without food. With my adult fish, I don't worry, but these guys are still amazingly small. I don't imagine that they will last long with no food.

Honestly, they are a little freaky looking...but way cool that you have gourami fry! Which gourami are they, your sparklings????

They are Dwarf Gourami Fry. The Dad is a red/blue stripe and the Mom was silver. I'd love to breed my sparkling gouramis, but I was only able to save one. I don't know if I will be breeding any more small fry after this. I think if I have a dozen of these guys left when they are old enough to go to the LFS I will be lucky. I imagine Sparkling Gourami fry would be even tinier. I think I will stick to breeding fish where the parents do most of the work. I have some Kribs that are looking like they might pair off.
