I received 5 of these last week, and lost 1 within 2 days. It was the only one with a ragged tail, was beat up before it was shipped out. The remaining 4 seem to be doing well enough, but they're still very skittish, and dive for cover whenever they see me moving anywhere near the tank. I'm hoping they'll settle down a bit with time. They're sharing the 75 growout tank with the juvie chanchito's, and their paranoia has infected those as well.
Pretty fish, it's a shame they're "juiced" to bring out the color though. Unlikely the males will be fertile, and they're a bit more aggressive than other severums from what I've read.

Very nice fish. Give them time to settle in, they will come around.

Nice Severums. Mine took about 2 months to really settle into there new home. Mine are very shy fish but they overcome that at feeding time.

Very nice pick up's, I never found mine to be over aggresive when I had them
and they will settle down for sure, best of luck with them.

Unfortunately, the sev's didn't come alone, they also brought along Ich. I dosed the tank with rock salt, 1 Tbsp/5 gallons, and have been raising the temp gradually. By tomorrow it will be at 86, too high for the Ich to live.
I sold the last of the juvie chanchito's out of the tank earlier today. Now that it's just the severums and some BN pleco's they seem more comfortable being out front. I expected them to be skittish after the tank was stripped down then put back together. I think the warmer temp also has something to do with it. Mike was telling me the reds prefer warmer temps than the green or gold.
Looks like today's new arrivals won't be going into the 75 for at least another week. I received 8 Gymnogeophagus el norte, and put them into the 40 breeder with the juvie cutteri. Once the Ich is cleared up I think I'll move the red sevs into the other 75 with the sunshine peacocks. The adult pair of oblongum's are in there now, but would probably like the cooler temps along with the Gymno's.
I know, I know, pics of the new fish will be coming after they settle in a little better. If they're like the catalans they'll be out front begging for food in another day or two. Those little buggers aren't as colorful as Ram's, but they certainly do have great "personality".
