My NitrItes are less than .25 now, Ammonia 0 and NitrAte is high 40mlg on the chart.

Performed a water change about 25% tonight.

One of the fish appear very lethargic, I'm wondering if this is the NitrAte?

Thanks again...but slightly happier things are improving!

you need to get the nitrite to 0. that is more of a problem than the 40 nitrate.

Do a bigger water change to save the fish!

Are the fish gasping for air?

Add a bubbler to the tank. It will reduce the effect of nitrite poisoning.

From what I have read Seachem's Prime also reduces the toxicity of ammonia and nitrites, the downside is it will also screw up a lot of water tests and it is recommended that you use their test kit.

lol mm yes, what a great business model :)

But yes, Seachem Prime, along with any chemical that neutralizes ammonia, gives you a false positive test for ammonia. This I have seen.

Hi Guys,

No the fish are not gasping for air, they are all just hovering peacfully apart from one which just isnt doing much, its gone very quiet.

Its now sat in the plants...!

I Think you recall i cycled my tank but then the NiTrItes went rocketing again, I've been battling with them for just over a week but now they are almost gone.

I'm actually surprised that my fish got through this so far......

Anyway Will keep a watch on it,

Hi Guys,

Things are much better on the water front. NitrItes 0 Ammonia 0, PH 8 and NiTrAtes 20mg ( water changes keeping this in tact)

I lost a Pleco the otherday, he went black, had a white mucous on his head and the next day died. Not sure what happened but a shame none the less.

My Frontosa's are looking in good shape, one of them is growing well and is alot larger now than the other.

All in all quiet happy with progress so far.

Thanks again for your help...

In closing, when should I clean the filter? Or do you guys just leave this...

Cheers

glad to know everything is getting back to normal. what ype of filter are you running? if it has 2 inside i'd probably do just one for now and then other in another week or two and then continue the changing cycle from there keeping them staggered.
