Im planning to build an integrated Hood with the following.

10 X (50w Equiv) White LED downlighting (Each unit has 3X 1w leds)
10 X (18w Equiv) Blue LED Downlighting (21 1W LED in each downlight)

Both colours will be on a seperate circuit, with the white on a timer to suite daylight hours....

the build will be suspended above the tank with the cover glass 6" above the aquarium, and the light will be 1" clearance from the cover glass. Am open to the fact of the use of reflectors for the Leds.

Obviously all will be insulated to condensation and precipitation and fused to 240V.

Have all the wiring designs and proportional sets for the Hood, glass and tolerances for the silicone, including heat resistance.

Anyway. My question is...

Is the amount of lighting per 8-10 hour cycle too much for an exotic reef aquarium, and if so, what do I need to reduce it to?

Cheers

Halides are the way to go:hmm3grin2orange: I might try LED in the distant future once the price goes down but nothing (except the sun) can compete with the shimmer and color of halides

wattage has NOTHING to do with leds. It is the type of led used you need to look at. Leds run on amps not watts.
