Hi all, so I'm going to pick up some red cherry shrimp today. A lady here locally is selling them for 2 bucks a piece (pretty good price I think). Anyways, a buddy was going to come with me and grab 10 for himself, and I was going to get 5 (already have 6 amanos). Well, now he has to leave town early, but would still like me to grab his 10 and hold on to em for a week. That will mean I will have a total of 21 shrimp in the tank for a week or so.. This is a medium to heavily planted tank (55 gallons) with some nice hiding spots, etc.. You think these critters will be ok for a week or so, or is it shrimp overload? Thanks,

Shrimps bioload is nothing.

Is the tank cycled?

What fish are in the tank?

Ten extra cherry shrimp will add next to nothing in your bioload. I think your biggest problem is going to be finding and catching them for him.

You can easily trap them to remove the 10 for the friend. As stated above, those shrimp will not, but in the slightest, effect your bioload, especially in a tank of that size.

All you need to trap the shrimp is a small container, that you can safely put in your tank, that has a opening big enough to let just the shrimp in and keep the fish out. Place so food in the container, submerge in tank, wait an hour, and remove.

Yea, the tank is cycled (goin on about 6 wks, levels are good). Got a powder blue dwarf gourami, small-med sized angel, a dozen neons, 3 corys, 2 otos.. None of them have gone after the amanos.. Attached a pic for fun (about 2-3 weeks old, plants have filled in a bit)

Possibly gouramis but definitely angels will eat the RCS if they can find them.

Your angel looks young though so you might get lucky.

The tank looks great

If nothing else put them in a breeder net to keep them safe.

I'd be weary of putting them into a tank with the gourami and angels. About the only fish I've kept them with safely is microrasboras and very small tetras. Safe to keep with otocinclus as well.

21 shrimp should be fine to keep in a 55g. I have easily 200+ in a 20g long.

Thanks for all the input- I went to pick them up and these guys were tiny babies! At that point I immediately thought breeder net also. Stopped and picked one up on the way home and that's where they are and will stay for now.. Also took one of my sinking tablets that I use for the corys and broke it up into small pieces and put it into the net. They seem to be gobbling it up. Hopefully they'll stay happy enough in they're until there big enough to be released into the tank- as I said before the fish do not bother the amano shrimp one bit..
