m/f ratios a concern with barbs?

are there concerns stocking male/female ratios with barbs like with cichlids?

Somewhat, not as bad as with say african cichlids, but they definetly play a large part in aggression. A pack of 3 males should have maybe 6-7 females to start with. In general, barbs need a large school to spread out the aggression, or else they will kill each other or other fish.

After reading your profile, the 20L with glass barbs, what are your numbers on the fish in it? Because around 5 gallons seems pretty small for the fish mentioned, unless you plan on re-locating them into one of your other tanks.
