This morning I noticed that one of my recently acquired mollies gave birth! I REALLY wanted these babies but didn't have time to catch and remove them into a grow out tank because I had to go to work!

Well, when I got home from work, I was pleasantly surprised to fnd that most, if not all of them, were still alive! I ended up with roughly 24 which are now housed with my baby yellow labs that I got a week or so ago!

Can't wait 'til they get older!!

You've got quite a few baby mouths to feed these days. :hmm3grin2orange:

Any idea on a rough number of ALL the babies you currently have?

That's great!

Sounds like you might have had more than one female drop though. Isn't 24 a lot to get from a single female?

It depends on the size of the female. Livebearer fry numbers vary greatly depending on size of the mother.

Guppies are the best example of this I can think of, though. Small Mothers may only drop ten, while big ones can have almost a hundred.

Works out about the same for mollies, but I don't think there's such a HUGE gap in the numbers.

I have about 30 blue chichlids with the black stripes, there's Herculis (bumblebee), there's about 20 yellow labs and about 24 mollies AND one bumblebee who's probably going to spit here soon. Last batch of bumblebee fry was 51.....so do the math LOL. I also have a couple more preggo mollies.

In a nutshell I have babies coming out of my a** and more enroute LOL

I had a female endler drop 30 and they are waaay smaller than a molly. Needless to say she looked like a deflated balloon afterwards.
