I don't have much money to spend, but I have $60 in gift certificates to one lfs and $45 in store credit to another. I'm planning on making a small pico reef, maybe micro. Either will be pretty simple and have no fish, maybe some hermits snails or a shrimp.

.5-1.5g something that I could use as a tank.
- Live sand
- Small chunk of LR
- No artificial light
- a few hermits and or snails.
- flow, idk need to think about this one

2.5g
- live sand
- small LR structure
- light, whatever I find. maybe an LED experiment
- small hob fuge for flow and other benefits
- snails, hermits, peppermint shrimp
- maybe some zoas
- maybe rimless w/euro brace

I would pick up a JBJ picotype and mod it out.

I would personally go no less than 3-4G even for a pico...far to difficult to keep stable and in tanks this small youd honestly probably spend more the smaller you go. Look at the tiny little azoo powerhead it pumps like 40GPH...its the smallest one and usually around $9....I use it as a mixing pump in a bucket with good results.

I know it will be more difficult to keep stable.

I found these hydor pico evolution pumps. $11 for 70gph and it looks pretty cool. Although I may just use one of the power filters that comes with one of the kits for flow.

EDIT: Forget the deco. The light has to be completely replaced everytime it goes out and the tank is acrylic. I'd end up buying a light anyway.
