A couple of weeks ago I started a thread asking who you all thought was eating my lotas plants. Most said the rubberlip pleco, but it is not. I know who did it now, I caught them in the act! It's my black ruby barbs that are eating the leaves. It really doesn't matter because they grow so quickly, but I just wanted to share. So whoever guessed the ruby barbs was right.
LOL...I have no idea about ruby barbs...haven't seen one...but I'm glad you cleared up the mystery! Wouldn't like to see Mr. RL blamed for something he didn't do!
I've also never seen the barb you describe. Can you post a picture? Just curious.

Ooo I got it right :hmm3grin2orange: right on the money! My barbs are just the same, if they like a plant it won't last much longer.

Not the best pic of my dominate male black ruby barb, he is camera shy. But he is sooo pretty. The other males are nice too, but not as deep of color. The females look more like tiger barbs but the middle line is 'blured'.

They are pretty common fish but in the stores they are not colored up and I think a lot of people pass them up. They are not as nippy as tiger barbs. In fact they do not bother any of my other fish.

Lukenasia, mine only eat the lotas plant, they leave the others alone. Make sure to feed them lots of veggies, mine love cukes. They also eat romaine, red leaf and green leaf lettuce, musterd and collard greens and kale. Also peas are a big hit. I feed them pretty much anything I have in the frigde for the guinea pigs and the bearded dragon. Never feed iceburge lettuce.

Nice shots, they look a bit like Odessas, plus a bonus spot. Pretty fish!

They aparently like the val plants too, &$$^%* fish. They are leaving the java fern, java moss, anubias, crypts, hygro, aponogeton or onion plant. They are nibbling at the lotas, vals and the wisteria a little.

I have 5 tiger and 5 green barbs and they have shown no inclination for anything other than their flake and the dribbles on the bottom from other fish...
Guess I'll keep an eye on my Oriental Sword and Anubia's!!

I know that ruby barbs need more vegitation in their diet, I am not sure on tiger barbs. They do leave the anubias alone.
