Yes, but hydroxide will raise your pH if I'm not mistaken. Ammonia from a department store is much cheaper too.

you're better off with store bought ammonia if you can get it, that is.

Many, many years ago I bought 36% ammonia at the local drug store. If you can't find it anywhere else, ask the Pharmacist. Tell them you only need a very small amount.

It has to be 100% ammonia. else, it could have more additives that are harmful to fish

DO not use anything with reported "quality control agents" and "surfactants." It's a nightmare I've attempted to erase from my mind, it was so bad.

Best thing recommended is an ACE Hardware or other hardware store. It's called Janitorial Strength and you'll know it's the real stuff, when it knocks your socks off and you open it, rather than smelling nice. It's the only ingredient. And the shake test.

Some people swear by Great Value at Walmart, but I know my Walmart ammonia brands ARE in the detergent section and are very IFFY.

Check your label, what your calling 100% ammonia is actually 1-3%, the rest is water.

You will not find 100% ammonia for sale anywhere.

Pure ammonia is very dangerous, it kills living tissue on contact, gangrene sets in immediately.

The ammonia sold for household use is a dilute water solution of ammonia in which ammonium hydroxide is the active cleansing agent.

Just check the label to insure there are no other ingredients listed

I got mine at the Family Dollar Store if those are in your area. One quart for $1.

It looks like Ebay is selling laboratory grade Ammonia, but unless the seller actually works for a lab or sells product to a lab, you probably cannot be certain what you will get. I got my ammonia from the cleaning isle in the grocery store (no-name type, bottom shelf). All it has is water and Ammonium Hydroxide. Much cheaper and I can use the leftovers to clean my house. I used an oral syringe (also bought in the grocery store) to dose 1 millilitre each day until my cycle was done, then I lowered the dose a little until I could add my fish. It worked very well and I now have a tank full of happy, healthy fish (my tank at work).
