I came across a large scientific jar or bottle, and thought how nice it would be with something living in it!!I've put 3 cherry shrimp in and they seem to be thriving (Day3) It's been cycled and checked for PH, and in my server room it stays at a steady 26-27.C Looks cool I think. Its 9inches high with a radius of 2.5inches which makes it a 0.64 gallon.

Welcome to the Fabulous AC!:22:
The jar looks great but I doubt its cycled without a filter.Check out the ebook.
Do you have any other tanks?

when I say cycled I mean its out of an existing tank, going to work out measurements and replace with new water every....how long?

Welcome to the forum
Northernguy gave you some great advice.
If your kinda new to fish keeping, you'll find a lot of good suff in the free E-book. After many years of fish keeping off and on, I learned a LOT from this book, and I'm still learning
Can't say enough good things about it

Surface area ratio would be much better (for O2 exchange) if you dropped the water level a bit. The live plants will help with ammonia while the bacteria get established, but I wouldn't feed more than very tiny amounts in the meantime.

I would change a large portion of the water at least twice a week.
Lowering the water level as mentioned will help keep the oxygen levels up.
Have you considered adding an airstone?

I have a 1 gallon cylindar bowl thingy (I know...very descriptive) that i was thinking about keeping rcs in...right now it has cycled water, a piece of driftwood, and a good amount of hornwort in it.
I really like the look of it so I've had it set-up for about 3 weeks now with no occupants.
Would an airstone be necessary for such a set-up? Mine is open on top...so the O2 exchange would not be as much of an issue as it would be in tome30's badass looking scientific jar. I really dig how that looks btwthumbs2:.
Also is a heat source needed for the rcs?

Thank you all for your positive words and advice, I'm getting some Java fern too, because the little fellas do seem freeze in fear when i get too near....then saying that looking out through convex glass....I bet I do look scary!!
Also this morning the temp had gone down to 17-18,they were very still, as soon as they were back up to daytime temp 24-26 they were whizzing about, i might look at getting a heat mat for night-time would that be ok as I dont want to boil them. (Yummy!)
My girlfriend has named them Kung-pau, Alfredo, and Jean-Claud. Bless.
