Fish Food Shelf Life

I bought a rather large can of flake food. I'm now reading that the nutrients in the flake food have a shelf life of only about a month. I'd rather not throw out the food I will certainly have left over.

Will freezing it preserve those nutrients longer?

You can freeze the food to extend the shelf life, but after a 8 months to a year I would toss it.

Most things I have read about commercial foods recommend no more than a year. Also dont keep it on top of the light fixture the heat is no good for it.
