How many fish to get?

Is there a rule of thumb on the amount of fish to have in your tank? I want to have a good amount of fish but not to over crowded. Thanks.

thats a decent sized tank so you could have a fair few fish in it as long as they dont grow to large, or, u could have a smaller ammount of large fish, what were u looking to buy

going by dr. william t. innes book(exotic aquarium fishes) 1 inch of fish per gallon.

Thats a good basic rule of thumb (works on most beginner comunity tanks) but it also depends on the type of fish you keep and their bahaviour.
