Well, for some stupid reason i wanted a 1g tank at wal-mart for 18$.

For stocking, would 4 white clouds ( theyre coldwater, and i cant have no heater in a small tank ), and a small shrimp work? i'll probably stick in java fern too

4 white clouds in a gallon might be too much, but they do stay small and you are on top of your tank conditions. I'd go for it and see how you do.

I almost bought a 5 gallon tank like that at Walmart last week. They are the ones with the filter built in, right? I'll be curious to know how you like it.

Sorry cocoa I'm gonna say nope

Whatever about the bioload, they're active little guys who want a touch more space.

Not much room for error in a 1g either - plenty of work maintaining water conditions

For a 1 gallon, I would either do a nano shrimp tank, or make it a betta home.
They also make great tanks for fish rooms where the heating is roomwide. Or you could do killies, which do not require much space and are cold water fish. Least Livebearers (Heterandria Formosa) would do well as long as you planted it heavily. There are literally dozens of cool things to do, and not enough tanks!!

Maybe just a fancy shrimp tank then.

Bettas a no, since i only keep them in tanks 2g or larger.

Ditto on the white clouds...busy little fish...

The shrimp would probably be a better bet.

the white clouds in my 20g planted are zippy.

Why cant there be a fish thats small, really slow, and can live in small tanks? lol

The problem is i can hardly find fancy shrimp here. Theres a lfs every block practically, but so far all ive seen is ghost shrimp and marble shrimp

Maybe you should order online

i dont really trust buying online, and its stressful on the fish/animal.

Ive seen a specialty place here where that can ship in any fish. I might try that.

You have a LFS that can ship fish? Not sure how that would differ from ordering from another remote fish shop?

Theres a few around here that will ship any species for free, you just have to pay the regular fish price.

Say a lfs couldnt get in a lionfish, and i wanted one. Here, theyre about 50$, so they'd pay to ship it and id just have to pay 50$ for the actual fish

i actually saw a lfs with those kick @$$ mini octopuses and seahorses.

Teh-tank, some lfs's do have crabs! I was just considering getting some, but they need land and i already bought the biowheel filter and heater, but thanks for the suggestion!

Be careful with small shrimp. Not only can they get sucked up into the filter, but I have found several dead from what I believe is them climbing into the biowheel! I have a 2 gallon eclipse set up that has the filter in the hood, which, BTW, I love the eclipse set ups. I covered the filter intake with mesh so they wouldn't get sucked up but still kept finding dead shrimp on the filter media. The only thing I can figure is that they were able to climb into the area where the biowheel dumped back into the tank and the biowheel was flipping them up and over. Poor guys! I decided to put them back into the 10gallon and the ADF's went into the 2 gallon.

I dont think anything should be able to fit comfortably in a 1 gallon tank, besides shrimp.

the 1g just has a a UGF, but thanks for the heads up with the bio-wheel and shrimp. After fixing 5 TOTAL leaks on the 29g, i just got it running, and it has a biowheel. I need a light for it now.

I thought you had an aqua clear for the 29

cocoa_pleco
05-10-2007, 03:57 AM
nope, my list is...

10g salt- whisper, UGF
2g- hob
33g- largest aquaclear and aquaclear mini
20g planted- fluval 20g
20g auratus/tetra/ brichardi- medium sized aquaclear
20g long toad tank- no filter
29g- biowheel 350
5g- whisper
1g- UGF

Its the 33g that has aquaclears. The 29g has a fresh new bio-wheel 350. I want a fluval 305 to add for it soon so i can overstock a wee bit.

Cocoa,

Best return the tank, get your $18 back and spend it on a larger one or goodies for your other tank. Understand that the purchase was impulsive and you won't be happy with a tank of that size. They are more bother than they are worth - really....

Good luck and best regards.

I don't know, chaindriven. Cocoa is very experienced and knows his tanks. Might be a little more monitoring involved, but he'll be fine.

For slow moving fish that do not need lots of space, go with a pair of killifish. There are many different species and all have their own charm, although I am quite fond of the australis species....

killies can fit in 2g's.

If that guy lives close i'll get 10 cherries and put some in the planted tank
