View Full Version : My Jag thinks he's a vegetarian?!

I've had a Jaguar for a few months now. He (maybe she?) has been eating cichlid pellets with gusto twice daily. He is about 3 or 4 inches now, more than twice his size since I got him. I recently picked up a common pleco, about 6 inches, and have been feeding it medium size sinking wafers. That guy is a beast! He cleaned up my algae problem completely in 24 hours, and devours about 5 wafers daily, as well as any ciclid pellets that make their way to the bottom. Anyway, the Jag has stopped eating the pellets, and only wants to mess with the wafers. He tries to eat them but they are too big, so he spits them out repeatedly until he breaks them down enough to eat. I broke the wafers up today before dropping them in, because I was concerned about him hurting himself on them or choking. (Is that possible?)

My main concern is that although I feed the cichlids first, the Jag won't eat that food anymore, and only wants the wafers. Will he get over it? Is it okay if he only wants wafers?

Maybe the Jag got bored or the pellets? Do you feed him any frozen foods like bloodworm? Its nice to treat them occassionally, personally I would say Jags are fussy eaters, but what you can do is starve them for 2 or 3 days, all of them (Don't worry won't do them any harm just will be hungry) and try and feed only the pellets then after a while then put the wafers in, to see if he likes to have the cichlid pellets.
