I think he's happy, he's finally growing some whiskers, and here's my pretty little endler.

That fish in the second picture is an endler.I was buying some fish at petco and when I got home I had three baby fish in the bag with the other fish I had bought. I didn't know what kind of fish they were so I put them in a 10 gal and let them grow. When they started showing color, I looked them up on the internet and found out they were called endlers.

That's cool you found endlers at Petco. Nice pic, I can't get mine to stay still long enough to get a decent photo.

Emmanueljb, No, endlers are not dyed, injected or modified, as far as I know they are a breed all to themselves, although I have read they will crossbreed with guppies. I would not keep them with guppies.

I'm not an expert on endler's, but that male looks like it's part guppy to me. Pure endler's don't have double swords/lyre tails, and don't usually have so many different colors on a single fish either.

Is the female in pic #2 pregnant or just fat?

Toddnbecka, When I got these little fish I didn't know what they were, I was pretty sure they didn't look like guppies to me and when I looked around for info. they looked more like endlers than anything else I could find, sorry if I misslead anyone, I didn't know what else to call them. But you got to admit they sure are pretty little fish.

I agree they're pretty fish, and personally I don't have anything against hybrids in aquarium fish. Some folks are very particular about the distinction though, so if you want to give away or sell any (and you'll likely have dozens of fry soon enough) it's best to know what they are.
I read somewhere that Endler's are now extinct in the wild, at least in the location they were originally collected. Since there won't be any more from that source I suppose it's important to keep track of bloodlines, though as anyone knows it's unlikely-impossible they'll ever be returned to their native habitat from aquarium stock.
I really don't understand why some folks seem to think it's virtuous to breed species that are endangered or extinct in the wild.
