I bought an algae scrubbing sponge pad awhile back. It was a real hassle to use, and it didn't work very well. I asked my LFS about this, and he told me about razor blades. These scrape hardened spot algae off the glass very easily and quickly.

I thought I'd share this info, since it's been a big time-saver.

(Try not to slice the aquarium's sealed edges open, though. Try not to dissect any of your fish, either  )

razor blades are good. And like i recommend to everyone. get an algae eater in the tank and be sure to monitor your tank regularly.

I have sometimes used ajax or a brillo pad to clean the algae off my tank. Would this be a bad idea to use to clean my aquariums?

Some (all?) ajax or brillo pads contains cleaning and/or polishing chemicals and are therefore not suitable to be used in an aquarium.
