I bought an algae scrubbing sponge pad awhile back. It was a real hassle to use, and it didn't work very well. I asked my LFS about this, and he told me about razor blades. These scrape hardened spot algae off the glass very easily and quickly.
I thought I'd share this info, since it's been a big time-saver.
(Try not to slice the aquarium's sealed edges open, though. Try not to dissect any of your fish, either :wink: )
