View Full Version : Skunk cory with fungal infection

I have a skunk cory with a small fungal infection.

I'm going to quarantine him in a one gallon tank (the only backup tank I have) with a salt solution (and 60% main tank water + 40% fresh water, which changes the Ph slightly), which I know is not ideal for a skunk cory, but I have no other option at this point because I hear they're really susceptible to meds (more so than salt).

Does anyone have other suggestions that could help me out?

I'd really appreciate it.

Don't use salt for cories. There are meds out there you can use for fish that are sensitive. Most the time cutting the dose in half is all you need to do. My personal favorite med for fungas is methylene blue, but I do not know if it is too much for cories. There is also melafix and primafix you can look into.

Ah, thanks.

I'll keep the little guy in the main tank, do 25% WC tonight and look into the best meds at my LFS tomorrow then.

Kinda wish I had seen the growth earlier today since I made a trip out there.

I had a cory with fin rot and used both melafix and pimafix along with frequent WC and that worked out great for him. Also in this thread (http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aquariumforum/showthread.php?t=59015) lahlumdi treated with these as well with no problems with the corys.

Nice.

I'm going to try out the Melafix in my quarantine tank with 40% daily WC for a couple days.

Thanks for the replies.

I did research. Looks like Pimafix is better for fungal infections.

Thanks again for your help, everyone.

Pimafix is for fungal infections...just wasn't sure what you saw since some think fin rot is fungal but melafix is best for that.

Yeah, I ended up getting Pimafix.

I'm going to keep the little guy in my 1 gallon med tank for 3-4 days with Pimafix. I have an aerator but no filter, so I guess I'll have to do 25% WC everyday.

So I added about 4 drops (following the 5ml / 10 gallon, I put 0.5 ml in the 1 gallon tank) of Pimafix into the tank.

It says to add one dose per day, but I assume that it's for bigger tanks with much more water. Will it be safe to add 4 drops every day in such a small tank?

Follow what the directions say to do.

Also, pics of the little guy and the med tank.

It does say to dose daily for 7 days and make a 25% WC, but would it be safe to refrain from doing a water change in a 1 gallon tank for 7 days?

NVM, he didn't make it.
