Ok, so I got this fish from a friend who's going cichlid, his brother put it in there and we have no idea what it is. Can somebody ID it please? The reason for this posting is because he chases around the big danios, which are twice his size, and every fish that's smaller than himself, he leaves alone. This isn't a harmless chase, there is some nipping going on, and he'll single out one fish for the longest time, and they are moving fast! The other guys are not having any fun, and I can almost hear them begging for his removal! The fish in question is in the top left, his wide black band runs down his body and down his bottom tail fin into a point, not through the middle like an SAE. You can also see him by the red light in the second picture, and while we're at it, what's the orange fish with red fins/eyes on the left/middle? (Sorry, I have a handful of rescues from this tank I've yet to identify...)

Can you circle which fish you are referring to in the second pic?

Sorry Chrona, it's not your dreaded Buenos Aires tetra!! you were kinda hoping tho, weren't you? I know what those guys are and I wouldn't have them in my tank! This guy seemed so cool at first, and the orange guy befriended the danios so he stays!

Yeah, it's ok. I've never spotted them at a LFS around me...Any other takers?

Just had a look in my aquarium encyclopedia, (the mailman just dropped off LOL) and it looks very much like a Penguinfish.

Thanks crack! That's him alright! Articles state peaceful, great addition to community tank, but then actual experience reports of aggression! It is said they do best in groups of 4-6, but i never see them at the stores, otherwise i would get him some buddies, maybe that would solve the problem?? if not, he's out, i hate to tho because his coloring is pretty neat.
Thanks again crackatinny! Now, onto that orange one...

I'm going to hold out and wait for The Hidden Reef to open up their fish section, and see if they will carry some mates for him.

Still nobody for the orange fish in picture #2? His eyes are red like an albino, and my friend said he is naturally blind, which I believe bc he doesnt swim to the feeding area with everyone else when I approach the tank. Red fins...anybody?

yes, his body is the same, but he's orange with red fins...weird. I'm starting to think I got my hands on a reject genetic test or something.

The Hockey Stick Tetra looks very similar to Silver Tip Tetra's, which are easy to find. It may shoal with them.

Does the fish actually have eyes? Blind cave Tetra's are albino and completely missing eyes IIRC.

it has eyes...maybe he's not blind and just not as quick to react to food or my hand?? I've been seeing that albino trait and have been second guessing also. It does, however, still look like a tetra of some sort.
