Anyone seen it? I had pretty poor expectations for it but I actually have been watching it a lot

Any person big or small that wants to stick their neck out for pitbulls is alright with me thumbs2:

Pitts have been the victim of irresponsible/uninformed owners and bad press for a long time. Also, the illegal drug industry has had a hand in breeding bloodlines purely for aggression. A product of this has been the urban/gang dog fighting rings. Its important when buying a pittbull/amstaff to observe temperament and to know its parentage and breeder.

I don't know the show but I want to step up and say that we own one purebred pit and one black lab/pit mix. Sweetest dogs you could ever meet. Just babies, they want to get into your lap and just be with their people. Perfect with my 7 year old daughter. Woe be the person who would try to get in the house without permission though! If we introduce a person to them they'll sniff them up but then they go back to being babies. Awesome.

I like that show, wasn't sure if I would. I love pitts, they can be really great dogs. The do tend to be dog aggressive but it is part of the breed like many other breeds. Akitas, shar pies, most terriers... They are great family dogs, great with childeren.

We hand raised a litter of 3 pit pups. Sweetest babies you could want. Raising them from a young age helps acclimate them.

I a huge fan of pitbulls, I grew up with a bully female pit...she looked like some sort of crazed gladiator on steroids. But was a total lap dog, she tollerated my typical child pesterings...pulled me around on skateboards and wore reindeer antlers and various garb with grace. She was probably the smartest dog I have ever owned.

My daughter had an all white pit and she said the same thing. How wonderful the dog was. Then a friend visited that had a 4 year old child with her. The dog literally leaped across the room to bite the kid in the face. This dog was used to lots of people being around and was raised with two kids and she was 5 years old. But something about that little kid set her off.

And now for the irony of this whole story was the friend who brought the kid to the house had her own pitbull bite and maul a kid that resulted in 3 plastic surgeries to put the kids face back together.

Any dog can bite but pitbulls do a lot of damage. Many dogs will nip or bite and let go. Pitbulls hang on.

We could also say that about Dobermans or Rottweilers.

I think having some of these breeds you by default need to be a more aware pet owner. Ive never owned a "normal" dog breed, all of the ones Ive owned have a bad rep and raise your home insurance. Its not really just pits that bite and hang on, one of my friends boston terrier refuses to let go of items hes bitten down on...its just how members of the bulldog family are. Of course alot of the pits being bred now have huge wide heads with alot of bite pressure...its going to do damage. Thus its best to keep your dog restrained in public and leashed around strangers until the dog gets a feel for them...putting the animal in a situation to freak out and bite is never a good choice.

I agree with the above statement completely. I think that sometimes we forget what these dogs are physically capable of when they have a bad moment, because they can be complete sweethearts with their family. Always err on the side of caution. Its the same with using tools, You are more careful with a chainsaw than a hammer.

Having nothing but bad experiences with neighbor's pitbulls and the known aggresion, I don't see why they are even legal to keep. I'm getting sick of hearing stories about pitbulls attacking and killing children.

That analogy can be said for alot of things in life as well. Statistically pits are a dangerous breed...but statistically alot of things are higher than others. Such as statistically middle aged white men are most prevalent to be a serial killer, statistically more traffic fatalities will occur driving an economy car than another one, statistically red cars get more tickets than other colors. Its all situational and just how the cards land IMO. Pits are delt a rough hand from the get go, the ones that do make it into a loving home still have the potential to kill a human...thats just how it is. You wouldnt let your(or Id hope) pet jaguar run loose with a small child even if he was super friendly with you. Same difference, the bite radius and power is actually not much worse than a large pit.

We also must understand dog communication when owning these breeds, dogs bite when feeling nervous more than they ever do when feeling aggressive. They usually give clear warning for aggression, nervousness on the other hand they bite out of fear. Sure your pit may be 110lbs but its less than 2ft tall...a human even a child is towering over the dog. Not validating the action but just saying if owners stopped and really considered the situation you wouldnt hear about those stories.

If your neighbors dogs are this aggressive he is probably training them to be, you could take any dog and make it aggressive. Its just sadly more of a status symbol for alot of people having an overly aggressive pit than an overly aggressive poodle.

we have a boxer pitt mix, stupid as dirt but sweet. he came up from the woods, and he didn't leave. everyone thinks pit bulls are killers, well truth is, a chihuaha is a killer if you beat it, starve it, and keep in in a shoebox all its life. at least someone is taking action to show these dogs are not rouge killers, and rescuing them from abusive or neglectful people.
