Well my female betta found out that shrimp are tasty last night.
My Red Cherry Shrimp (RCS) and Crystal Red Shrimp (CRS) shrimp made a mess of the cabomba in my 2.5 gal NPT. They were the only plants in the tank, and the shrimp would clip the leaves off the stems. Yesterday I decided that rather than wait for the dying plants to cause a problem I would replant the tank. I removed most of the cabomba and added some wisteria. The shrimp did not like this and freaked out. They were frantically swimming all over and attracted the attention of the betta, who used to ignore them completely.
I watched as she grabbed one and wolfed it down. I couldn’t believe she could fit it in her mouth. As soon as she did it she decided to spend the rest of the night hunting them all down. The RCS are too big to be eaten and are fine this morning. However the once numerous CRS are MIA. I found two that weren’t moving, but I couldn’t tell if they were dead or still sleeping this morning. I guess I’ll have to order some larger CRS.
