I have had the 5 gallon at work empty for about two weeks now. I took the betta home before all the snow, so I could keep an eye on him. Well, he took over my tank at home. So, I was on the look out for another betta- hadn't found one yet.

So imagine my surprise today when I came to work and one of my 2yr olds comes in grinning ear to ear! Their parents 'gifted' me 3 feeder goldfish to put in this 5 gallon tank. The kids were so excited. Now we have 3 'sharks'. How nice of them. I just smiled and thanked them for being so thoughtful.

So, I guess I will just leave them there, do several weekly water changes at naptime, and then as soon as possible, put them in the pond in the spring.

What temp. should the water be in the pond before I add them?

Well do you have any rooms in the house, such as a garage or something where its not quite heated but still attached to the house. Its about as closer as you can get temp difference wise from an unheated tank on the progress to outside, one of my friends is doing the same at the moment.

Just give them a few weeks to adjust :ssmile:

TAKE the fish out!!!! DO you know how big these fish get??? A goldfish gets around a foot and these "sharks" are waaay to agreesive and grow up to 14 inches. Go give them away to the pet store. Im asumming the tanks arent cycled. Please, dont keep them or seperate the goldies and sharks and put the sharks in a huge tanks.

EDIT: oh my lord I miss read this.....
Sorry :11:

I thought you meant you had three goldfish and three balas or fw "shark" in a five....
(Note to self: REREAD posts).

Yea, they should be good if you keep up on huge w/c. You have a pond? Nice.

is this where someone normally says it's the thought that counts? but it really was a nice thought, and i am sure the little ones love the "sharks." are any of them named nemo by any chance?

Well, no, we had a betta named Nemo though. They just call them 'sharks'.

I'm hoping it starts to warm up soon!!!

I do have the basement, it is like a finished garage-

As long as its cooler than the rest of the house it would be better, since you'd want them to get used to colder temperatures, otherwise the shock would kill them :help:
