I've looked around on the internet but I'm not sure what to get for a ground cover plant. I have some micro-swords planted in the foreground which I bought about a month ago but they're going nowhere. This is probably because my lighting isn't high enough (80 watts for 55 gallons at 6500K). This is apparently low light. You could have fooled me because the fish look like they're under a spotlight, but I digress...

I want something give the effect of a swathe of grass along the front of the tank, rather than individual small plants like mini nanas and so on. Can anyone suggest something that doesn't need high lighting? I have some java moss and that is already going well, but I have tied it to driftwood and some rocks and it seems to look better like that, IMO. Plus I can't put it on my substrate unless I get some needlepoint mesh or something like that.

Have you considered some moss balls?

Its not excatly the same thing as what you are looking for, but they do really well in "low light" just as you discribed. I used to have the same amount of lighting in my 55 as you currently have and my moss balls did graet.

I thought you might like to consider something different.

Only other plant that might do what you want is one of the clover plants. they are a ground cover that does well in low light but they will take their time filling in. You have extremely low light for most any grass like plant.

Yes, I was just looking at Marsilea quadrifolia, the 4-leafed clover plant, which has the advantage of being native to my home thumbs2: although I haven't heard of it until recently. Maybe I'll try that, if I can work out where to get some.

Got some coming from a guy on Aquabid, also a little blob of Pelia.
