Hello!

I would like to have a large fish bowl or cylindrical vase (really large) on my dining room table... very modern, very clean looking.

I don't want to have wires or tubes (etc.) attached to the tank.

I haven't been able to find an undergravel filter/aerator that is battery operated or self-contained.

I won't keep a goldfish in a stagnant tank. I think it's cruel. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of self-contained, filter/aeraots?

Thank you!
Jeff

I've seen that one, very cool, but my dining room table is in the middle of the room and I want minimal. A glass bowl, black rocks at the bottom a cool white plant.

I just don't understand why no one has come up with a battery operated self contained filter/aerator?

I know Beta fish and other air breathing fish can live in a tank without aeration, but love the big goldfish.

any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!!!!

The only thing I know if is this, [Only Registered Users Can See Links.].
But in a large bowl, you can probably keep 3 rosy barbs or white clouds as long as you change the water everyday. Now that I think about it, having 3 rosy barbs would be nice. As long as you keep up with the water changes and get a small amount of fish that can live at room temperature water you should be fine without a filter. Justt my 2 cents worth...

What about the biUbe, which is like the biorb just a cylinder.

With just plants this would be doable.

I don't think that it is cost effective enough for anyone to invent one. You could put a generator under your table if you like :)

How big is your table and would it support 400 lbs, because you really cannot keep healthy gold fish in a tank under 40 gallons, especially since you will not be able to have filtration if you refuse to run electricity to the tank. They are extremely messy fish and without filtration you would be reduced to doing daily if not hourly water changes.

If you really like goldfish, Why don't you do what is best for the fish and invest in a 55 gallon tank to put along the wall of your dinning room.

I understand what you are imagining might look spectacular in your head, but I think it could be a little impractical when you try to execute it.

I wish you good luck, but I am not sure that your idea is possible.

They do have battery powered air pumps, but these are generally used as power failure backups and for transporting fish.

Goldfish are not really doable. If any fish needs a filter it's goldfish.

I think what would look really good is a glass cylinder, black gravel, lucky bamboo rising out of the cylinder into the air, and a betta. This would be low maintenance, very attractive, and the healthiest setup as far as the fish are concerned.

...bowls really are no good for fish...active fish often end up swimming in circles...cruel and unusual punishment...
