hello guys!

just finished 4-5hrs of tank maintenance and fix up and upgrades.....

currently running two top/box filters turning out 65x turnover on my 20gal per hour! good stuff.......loads of bio-filtration and not a single piece of fish poop to be found on the floor! (no gravel/substrate)

for those of you unfamiliar with top filters - they are basically mini-wet/dry systems that sit on top of the tank, instead of below

current stock:

2 - .5" neons
4 - .5" tiger barbs
3 - .5" red danios
4 - .35" cory cats
1 - 5.5" common plec
2 - 1" yellow labs

what should i add?

overstocked? far from....i got some asian/china style filtration going on right now....but seriously - i can handle probably 4-10 more fish without any water parameter issues.....

i was thinking of adding 4-6 more neons, and 4-6 true rummynose tetras...

again, being in china, my options are quite limited......

i believe that you are overstocked right now, not to rain on your parade. 65 gallons an hour is only cycling the volume of the tank approximately 3 times an hour- not enough for as many fish as you want to keep in there. also, there won't be enough swimming/territory space for the fish. the yellow lab prefers a higher ph and hardness level than the other species you are keeping too. not really the ideal condition. also, the lab and the pleco will fast outgrow the tank they are in. this is just my opinion though.

haha...you have misunderstood the level of my filtration!

i am doing 65 x (times) 20gal per hour........

i am doing 5000litres per hour of powerhead powered filtration

as for the lab and pleco - this is a growout tank

as for the water conditions.....yeah.....not ideal, but these are 99% asian/china bred labs - and i am 99% sure they have low ph as well as not using malawi lake salts....so all should be well....

well - i will probably be adding some tank mates tomorrow - and will take some pics of what is going on here in china!

Sounds like a nice setup so far, my concern is that all thos fish will grow bigger. Tiger barbs can get pretty big, and danios can get almost to two inches if they live long enough. I would probably go with some more neons so you can have a more full school.

Unless you have filter media on the powerheads, they wont filter. Also, cichlids are NOT community fish by any means, so that is a bad idea.

I've got to unfortunately rain on your parade, too. Your pleco can and will grow upwards of 24 inches. Your cichlids are not going to get along with their current tankmates. Your barbs will become more aggressive as they get larger. Good luck, but I hope you listen to the majority here when we say you are in for rough times in the future, and most importantly your fish will not be happy.
