Welcome to the AC, glad to have you aboard. Not sure about the heads down and swims in circles question, but I'm sure someone else will probably be better able to help you on this one.

Welcome to the Fabulous AC!:22:
How long have you had them?
Is the tank properly cycled?
The perameters that must be watched are ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Ph is not a problem as lonmg as it is stable where it is.
Get an API liquid test kit. They are more accurate than test strips.

My oscars have never done what you described.

I always put my frozen food in a cup of tank water and thaw it out before I feed them.

So I would do that if I were you.

Good luck with the new fish. Definitely grab a test kit and make sure the water is perfect. They will heal from wounds like x-mans wolverine when the water is in good condition.

Grats on the eggs.

Wanted to second the part about X-man Wolverine Wounds. My Bully Oscar slammed a smaller albino into a piece of holey rock in my tank causing a laceration from just below the spin down to the bottom of the gill slit. The cut looked gruesome to say the least. Into the sick tank and a bit of Stress coat and he was good as new in less then a month. I was sure he was going to be belly up by morning. But he pulled through.

FWIW: I retired that particular piece of Holey Rock.
