For the 29g, which FINALLY has a filter ( brand new bio-wheel 350 ), heater, gravel, and light, im gonna go with cichlids.

Peacocks sound pretty interesting, so im just wondering if a snow white socoloffi would get along with any other fish. any suggestions open. I prefer smaller cichlids, no kribs or rams

I would only do a couple (3) labs and a couple (3) socolofies or a couple (2-3) red zebras.

so, 3 labs and 3 socolofis would work? that sounds good

I have also seen a 29 with 2 labs, 2 socos, and 2 red zebras.

Do you want peacocks? All the fish mentioned so far are mbunas.

darn, i was confused.

Since i already have the severum and knife taking up the 33g, i want a tank with lots of smaller cichlids.

The Mbunas sound good, but if you can name peacocks that works too

It is not as much about naming them as simply making sure they are peacocks. Even more so than with mbunas, with peacocks unless you know what species they are, you don't really know. What is important is simply whether it is a peacock or not. The other issue is males and females. In that small of a tank I would do just some males or one male and a few females. Peacocks are most easily distingushed by their large eyes (adaptation to their deep water environment). The males are very colorful. The females are generally a bland gray. Many of the open water cichlids from Lake Malawi look very similar to the peacocks, but the eyes are not quite as large. The good thing is that the open water guys are more positively identifiable. Keep in mind that juvenile colorations on the peacocks are nothing compared to mature males in a tank with the proper salts, a pH of 8.2, high water quality, and fed New Life Spectrum.
