I plan to make a tank set up like when I do my 50-55g fresh setup and was wondering if anyone knew what type of lighting would be good for this so I can plan pricing out? Any tips?

Also, what filter would people suggest I use on a tank like that? I will have a decent load once it gets up and running. I'll have my current 29g stock plus new ones once it gets going and running well.

Thanks for posting that link, it was really cool to watch what they started with and where they finished. Makes me want to do more reading on plants and planted tanks so that someday I could try my hand at something like that. :22:

I have started using ]Led Lights ("[Only Registered Users Can See Links.) and love them. They work really well, I haven't had them long enough to compare electric bills, but I am sure that it's helped. Just my 0.02 cents, good luck on your search.

Hemianthus Callitrichoides
Pogostemon Helferi
Staurogyne SP.
Myriophyllum Mezianum
Proserpinca Palustris cuba

is a list of the plants if that helps any of the more experienced planters with my lighting requirements.

I can't help you with the exact type of lights but if you are looking into high light plants you will want T5HO lighting.

[Only Registered Users Can See Links.] would be okay then? The other lights I see are over heard ones, and some of the fish in my tank are jumpers so I would need to a glass top.

I run a Rena Xp3 on my 55 and am very satisfied with it, been running 6 years now. I'm not as knowledgeable as others when it comes to plants but IMO anything that requires 2 watts plus I would go with T5HO.

I actually am planning on upgrading the lights on my tank and plan on using standard "shoplights" form home depot, more specifically these:[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
a 4 foot light with 2 40 watt bulbs, i may be getting new bulbs depending on what K theyre rated for, but ill have to check that out in store

I have the same thing with a reflector that use the T-12 lamps and bought a T-8 ballast to put in it so I can use T-8 lamps instead like this one.[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
