View Full Version : bullying gourami
I got 2 dwarf gourami last week , both males ( ! ) , the bigger is constantly chasing the small one , to the point he cannot eat or swim around , I'm afraid is gonna die as it is getting weaker every day.....any suggestion. It's still a healty fish and no sign of disease on him, should i bring it back to LFS ?

Take one of them back. If it was me I'd actually take the bully back, as then there's less chance the bully will turn to going after your platies or Neons once the victim is gone.
Gouramis have distinct personalities. Some are mean and murderous, some are peaceful. Only way to tell is once you have a tank set-up.
thank you Void , it seems the best thing to do to me too . hope I'll manage to bring it back in time , I would be glad to see the small one recover ( powder blue ) .

Void is right on target. Take the aggressive one back and let the submissive one regain strength.
the small blue powder gourami didn't make it ! this morning was agonizing , its tail nearly all gone as one of his whiskers....I put him down:scry:
my mistake to put 2 male gourami together, I have learned the hard way ....

I am sorry for the loss. We all learn the hard way sometimes. Some people never learn.

sorry for you loss
on a lighter note.....get a platty mine chases my dwarf all over trying his best to "puff-up" and be the boss
if you're getting a female read this [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
I have plenty of platies but they ignore the gourami and viceversa.
shouldn't be difficult to breed gourami from what I have read I'm just afraid of another bullying going on....

I guess i was a bit confused by the remove after the nest thing. If your going to breed that's one thing but how or why would you keep them together and not have to move them all the time. Sounded like they will get a bit aggressive after he builds the nest, so you might be back to square one. Can't help past that as I only wanted one and will probably leave him alone as a "centerpiece".
