So as my PT "job" I drive my daddy to play music at night on the weekends. Tonight we are in Ponchatoula. With the combination of Mardi Gras and the superbowl it's starting to get crazy! Glad I know back roads cuz the interstate headed to New Orleans is packed and there are state troopers everywhere... New Orleans is going to be insane on super bowl Sunday!

Imagine everything you've heard of Mardi Gras and your football team (who was doing poorly before) going to the superbowl! There are already parades going on, but the French quarter is going to be wild tomorrow... I'm not a football fan but I can't help feel pride in our team making it.

I've been to New Orleans twice (both before the Hurricane)...but not during Mardi Gras...

I wonder if the crowds are worse than those in Budapest on New Year's Eve?:hmm3grin2orange:

BTW...what kind of music does your Dad play?

Country/swamp pop, Zydeco, bluegrass. He is the lead guitarist and banjo player.
He is 71 and can't drive at night anymore after he wrecked his car. But he looks and acts much younger and we feel if he stops playing and working he is going to go downhill like his father did.
My mom says that when they were in Japan and living with my dad's dad that he was a brilliant man and would walk to the art museum and to his friends houses, and work in his garden. But, when they moved to the states my aunt and her husband moved in and wouldn't let him do anything anymore. He couldn't go anywhere and they waited on him hand and foot. My mom said within 6 months he developed Dementia.

I never met anybody on my dads side of the family. He has not been in touch nor been back. It is a shame but then again they never tried to get in touch with us.

71 isn't very old...I know several people in their 80s that are still going strong.

But I'm with you on the activity issue - keeping active keeps you young. I'm not a fan of early retirement unless you have a hobby to pursue and keep you busy.

...I also don't understand why people (and this happens a lot) think it's okay to restrict the activity of healthy seniors...that's logically just bizarre.

He had a doctors appt. and the they said he had the body of a 50 year old. His eyes just bother him, he sees double at night... so eye doctor is next :)
