View Full Version : More about snails
Okay, so my 2 blue and 2 gold mystery snails must have been having some fun when the lights went out because now I have many, many tiny snails. My question is, will they be blue or gold or some random color?
I don't know!
But the 4 dwarf puffers I'm acclimating just started licking their lips...;)

If you don't want it to happen again (too many snails) just keep your eye out for the eggs that are laid above the water line and you can scrape them off.
Should be interesting what colors you end up with though.
We control the snails in our other tanks (they are tiny brown ones, certainly not much to look at) by vacuuming. I am very curious to see their colors.
I want my new snails to have babies now...puffer food!
I give some to my clown loaches on occassion. They love them. For a while I actually just had a little tank that only had snails in it for just that purpose.

Drumachine, you're out of control. I'm so glad we love these corny jokes!
Rue, get a 10 gallon and breed them, it wont be much of a challenge, and you'll have free food for life for your puffers, and they will be so happy!
...I'll let them breed a bit in the 25l...they're currently keeping both me and Mr. Plakat entertained...
...Mr. Plakat even joined them for dinner...he tried a bit of algae wafer...before spitting it out in disgust and returning to defending the tank from his reflection...
...it's actually pretty funny...:hmm3grin2orange:
I'm watching my snails...
My Word! Talk about prodigious poopers!

I know. my old mystery had some good trails. I remember my old 6" feeder goldfish once had literally a 3 FOOTER hanging in the 33g, and it was huge. It stayed for like 12 hours until a pleco landed on it.

Beware, Rue, you may not get a whole lot of snails sharing a tank with a betta, mine has been seen many times munching one himself. Even if he can't eat the shell he manages to nibble something out of it!
I was wondering about that...wonder if I can hatch the snail eggs in a jar?
I cleaned up my 25g too well...no snails for the puffers...so I went to 'pick' snails at the LFS after I got off work...

Ok fishgeek!
Did the store give the snails to you for free? or did they make you pay?
Nope! These are nuisance snails...so no charge...saves them having to pick them out of the tanks...

Drive down to my walmart. 50% of their tanks are infested!
...sounds like a good excuse for YOU to start a puffer tank! :hmm3grin2orange:

Thought about it, but decided to do a planted one instead.

or....just a snail tank
I did a 10 gallon snail tank once. Not very exciting, but I didn't have anything to feed that snails to at the time. Maybe time to revisit!
