I thought these guys were really common and easy to breed. Yet no one ever seems to sell them. It can't be that they'd have no value either as people sell convicts left and right, or at least they try to anyway. What gives? I'm still like two months away on my budget for being able to get this tank I have ready for them, but I like to browse for fun and there are never any.

I would think that people would not want to buy them online. My firemouths cost $4.99 and you can only have a few in a tank so say you spend $20 on firemouths, you still will have the shipping which is more than the fish are worth.

I had to cull probably 400 of them!

They should be very easily available at any LFS. Even Petsmart always has them here. Cheap too, only bout $5.

My LFS is a two store mini-chain and neither ever has Firemouths. Also, I find it strange that aquabid is overrun with convicts, but people won't post firemouths because of a lack of demand. Convicts go for a quarter around here.

They may list them but I bet they don't know sell many. Just don't make good sense to pay $35 shipping for a few convicts.

I guess I've never notice this before. This is my first tank with firemouths. I never even considered them before so I never did pay attention to them in any lfs. I seen a lot of them in all lfs were I live. I thought they were very common.

They sell them in Wal Marts and just about anyother place that sells fish, and they're super cheap. I've seem them go for $1.

It's that very availability that is why you don't typically see them on sites like Aquabid . The only exception is that sometimes you'll see line bred strains offered up once in a blue moon. Other Thorichthys species do show up frequently though. Most folks use Aquabid to buy and sell species that just aren't commonly available at your average LFS and some of the better ones as well.
