My plans to breed a betta are coming along. My female is becoming gravid on a diet of live fruit flies and frozen blood worms. My next stages are to get a male, let him build a nest, and introduce the female. By the way, finding the male I want is not so easy. The selection of crowntails in my area is pretty limited. But I’ll find something.

For those who’ve bred bettas before what is the best food for new fry? I need to know now so as to have an appropriate culture built up when they arrive. Thanks!

I use Hikari first bite powder, microworms and I hear that vinegar eels are even better than microworms because they are smaller and are able to survive longer in water so they are available to the fry when they are hungry.

Are Petco's "King" bettas the same species? Could I breed an ordinary female with one?

"Kings" are Giant Betta, different than Betta Splendens but still a member of the Betta family. I wouldn't recommend trying to cross them.
