View Full Version : My world just came crumbling down!

Well the truth perhaps isn’t as serious as the title might indicate but a big part of the inner ceiling (1/4 inch thin concrete sheets) in the house we rent did just fall down on my GF and myself. We are both fine but the dog got a few cuts and bruises and is bleeding a bit. (not to mention is quite shocked)
Hopefully the landlord can get someone over rather quick to look over the integrity of the rest of the ceiling (looks good but…) and fix the broken parts. Otherwise we might have to sleep in another room for a while and since most rooms are occupied by animals of some sort that would be less than ideal.

Ouch!
That would have been a shock! Glad everyone is alright.
The pup may need some comforting for a while.Glad nothing is broken.

Oh dear William! Its good to hear that you and your GF and the dog is ok, thats the most important thing! Did it directly fall on you or did just part of it fall on you all. Hope the dog gets patched up pretty soon.
Glad you're both okay! Poor puppy though! I hope he doesn't end up with a 'fear of ceilings' issue...
That sucks...it's rare for ceilings to fall in...:sconfused:

Lucked out no one was hurt seriously. If the ceiling had been made out of plaster or something thicker would not have been good. Was it an old ceiling or moisture buildup that brought it down? May want to take a broomstick and rattle the ceilings in the other rooms, just to make sure they are on tight.

Those sheets are heavy enough but yes, it could have been worse. I don´t know what happened except for it being a really shitty job by the contractor they used. Now when I can look at the rest of the ceiling from the broken part I can see that much. What happens seems to be that it came loose from the concrete in one corner and than the shitty job did the rest. It has been really stormy that last few days which might have started the whole thing.

It fell directly on me, luckily I was rather alert so I was able to catch the sheet with my hands before it hit my head or anything. I even managed to save that sheet. The two other ones hit the floor and broke intoa million pieces.
I am not sure if the dog was hit in the fall or by the pieces after it hit the floor. He is back in the room sleeping so it doesn¨t seem to have been too dramatic even though he did shake for a while.
The kitten didn´t even wake up:hmm3grin2orange:

Good news that the dog hasn't beed too truamatised by it :)
And typical cat, they'd be running out the room quicker than the I could see if it happened anywhere near it. It still has all 9 of its lives then, maybe thats why it didn't care, it knew it had all of them left :hmm3grin2orange:
LOL...and yup...that's a cat for you...:hmm3grin2orange:

Yes the contractor who did this house is well know by now for cutting corners and overcharging. No one hires him anymore but this was a few years ago when I was still trusted and people hadn´t figured out that he had start drinking and stop caring.

I wouldn't worry about it, just wear a hardhat at all times and get your dog some puppy armor, sleep under the bed and move all the fish outside. Problem solved.
I should charge for this stuff.

Well I was allready planning to move all fish outside but a puppy armor sounds like a pain. LOL

See.. this is why I like tents. Tents are awesome. It falls down on you, you swear a couple times and either go back to sleep or put it back up again and then go back to sleep.

Tents can be very nice. I am tempted to build some mosquito proof sleeping area outside.

For heavens sakes. No one expects the ceiling to come in on them. Makes me wonder about the whole roofing structive and if other rooms are any more safe. Hope this means some free rent !

I would definitely be expecting some kind of recompense from the landlord and/or contractor if something like that happened to me and my family. That's a serious liability issue.
Glad to hear everyones ok though, and hope the pup feels better.
Also, I gotta say I love that dog in armor photo.

The pup is allright but the oks of things.
They are comming to fix all the roofs monday.
...If this can be of any consolation I had nearly the same, one morning i went downstairs to find out that the floor was flooded , 1st thought was the tank ....but when I raised my eyes to the ceiling : IT WAS LIKE RAINING from it .
A radiator pipe upstairs was leaking and filled the ceiling with water and then the water was just pouring down through it.Water actually opened holes in the ceiling and you could a shower standing there.
Enormous damages to the ceiling + walls , fortunately not to the maple wooden floor...
thankfully the home insurance will pay most of it......

Ya, but then all your other critters will want it too (except for the kitten...)
Happy to hear no one was badly injured, and hope it doesn't take too long to get the repairs done.

That's good news. You seriously need a spell checker William. :ssmile:

LOL. What I need isn’t really a spell checker but to take 5 seconds to look at what my chubby fingers have actually typed (it isn’t always what my brain told them to write, in fact it is something complete different:hmm3grin2orange:). But you are right, I really should care more about spelling but I never seem to able to in forums or mails. ;-)

They actually make more types of dog armor than you might think, I prefer the newer, tactical styles :hmm3grin2orange:

So you're not a 80 words\minute person? Me either. Heck, I know kids that can achieve that rate while texting on their cell phones these days.
Cell phones..mmmm...you probably don't have those in paradise..I hope. :sconfused:
