Ok, I have 2 questions.

1. My daughter got a 10g tank from her grandparents this last week and I am currently doing a fishless cycle of the tank. Once everything is ready I was looking at helping her pick out so live plants, but I wanted some expert advice on what would be the best to get for such a small tank.

2. My 37g has 2 decent sized cabomba plants in it and I think my dwarf gourami (or maybe someone else, don't know cause I haven't seen it happening) is eating them up. This morning I found one of the "stems" floating. It looked like it had been cut in half. Also looking to add java ferns but not sure yet.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

How many watts is the light on the 10g and how many watts is the light on your 37 gallon? Cabomba plants need high lighting especially in a deep tank like a 37g so the cabomba could have died and the roots just split at the base or eve in the middle.

If the 10 gallon came with the standard light chances are its 15 watts. Some good plants would be java ferns, java moss, water wisteria or anubias.

Try low light hardy plants. Anubias, java ferns and mosses as well as crypts.

I'll definitely have to take a closer look at my lighting for the 37g. Pretty sure I need to upgrade.

And yes the 10g is just standard with the kit it came with. It's 15w. I was thinking to put some Anubias and java ferns in the 10g, just wasn't sure. Also, I have to start considering what fish to put in. My daughter wants to have Mollies but I don't think that tank would be big enough, plus I've heard that they breed like crazy and I'd soon be overrun with them.

I was thinking more along the lines of a couple platy's and some cory's.

A school of cories would probably be too big for a 10g unless it was one of the smaller varieties.

Platies should work. I have 1 molly in my 10g and he has done well, but multiple mollies will likely not work out, they get too big.

I'd suggest looking at some harlequin rasboras, cardinal tetras or even neon tetras? You could get 8 or more of those.

I forgot. A female betta would be nice too.
